Changes coming for football

The following changes will be installed soon, likely this weekend. Nothing major, mostly just adjustments and bug fixes.

- Illegal Formation penalties have been added.

- Pass interference has been happening only about a third as often as happens in real life, so these penalties have been tripled.

- False Start penalties have been reduced.

- Defensive Holding penalties have been reduced.

- Offensive Holding penalties have been increased.

- Offside penalties have been reduced.

- Encroachment penalties have been increased.

- The possibility of an onside kick going less than 10 yards has been increased.

- The players who may possibly recover a blocked field goal are now more realistic.

- There was a rare circumstance where a blocked field goal kick could be recovered in the end zone without a touchdown, touchback or safety being recorded; this has been fixed.

- There was a rare circumstance that would result in a defensive player recovering a blocked field goal kick beyond the LOS and the offense getting credited with a first down and retaining possession; this has been fixed.

- Players who might logically be able to return a loose ball after a blocked kick are now more likely to do so, based on their Hands rating (in addition to Agility, plus Break Tackle to get out of the scrum)

- There was a bug where an offensive player recovering the ball beyond the LOS would advance it; the offense can no longer advance balls recovered beyond the LOS.

- There was a bug allowing medium and long shotgun passes to have too high of a completion rate; this has been fixed.

- Disabled complete ligament tears and hip fractures for single season leagues.

In addition, a change has been made that fixes the issue of some leagues having slowly declining pass completion percentages. This issue is more noticeable in premium leagues.

Question: Have false start penalties on Fullbacks been reduced as well? If so, by how much? The percentage of false start penalties that seem to go to fullbacks seems ridiculously high. I had my fullback basically lose the game for me with his silly 4 false starts last game http://football.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?displaytab=stats&id=1945468&statsyear=1984&statstype=reg&statsmode=gen&statsloc=all&statsweather=-1. Maybe I haven't been paying attention to football lately, but the number of false starts by a full back can't be that high. I'm beginning to think I should just run an all shotgun offense and eliminate the guy getting the most penalties per game.

A fullback shouldn't be false starting that often; that's a bug, I'll fix it.

I've run into a minor snag with the current updates, still hoping to get them done this weekend.

I drafted a punter because he was also a B+ rated RB, but it turns out punters are not allowed to play RB even if they meet the minimum ability. A change to allow that in the future would be cool.

They can play RB if necessary due to injury and no other RB's are available but you can't intentionally put a punter in at RB via the depth charts. You used to be able to do this but people would use this feature to abuse the salary cap by putting cheap players in expensive positions.

Note that Premium leagues can have the eligibility charts for their league altered. So if the majority of your league thinks that punters should be able to start at RB, it can be set up.

Also (hopefully) coming in this next update will be the ability to set up domes, which should help people who have attachments to certain cities but don't want to deal with the weather there.

Pass interference happens more in real life because the NFL insists on a more offensive game. That was highly unnecessary to triple the penalty defensive backs are handcuffed in the NFL, funny the one thing that's wrong with the NFL we will try to emulate here but lets forget about including stats for tackles and other realistic aspects of the real life game we should be striving to emulate. Domes Why?

agreed about the pass interferences and the NFL's rules to turn the league into the Arena league

i wish we could move away from that philosophy and try to make it like REAL football

It is a feature hat has been requested for a while. In the baseball sim, people can pick their favorite hometown city without it having any effect on the game, but the football sim brings with it rain and prevailing winds for that city. Oddly, so far no leagues have customized their rules yet except one league using numbers instead of letters.
