Jumbo Beers in 1970, and Other Notables

Post by Lyrici17 »

This may have been already noted previously, but I don't recall it. Regardless, it's worth noting again, even if so:

In 1970, Jumbo Beers became the career leader in both R (1,748) and RBI (1,856), after becoming the career leader in 3B after the 1968 season. He also hit both his 500th HR and his 3,000th H.

He is now 15 HR away from tying Basil Banghart for the career lead in HR (519); 61 H from tying the career lead (also Banghart, 3,127); 7 from tying Man Bearpig (the previous career leader in R) for the career lead in 2B (515).

Other things to note:

JJ Frascatore became the career leader in SB (593).

Zeke Rawlins became the career leader in AB (10,788), 1B (2,103), and BB (1,159). This is after becoming the career leader in G after the 1969 season.

Jumbo is back for his final season. Assuming he plays all year he could retire as the all time leader in hits, 2bs, 3bs, runs, rbi and HR, what a career.
