Art Fails to Imitate Life

I see that Cleveland's Mickey Mantle...

...is an A+ mentor.

true but I am still holding our hope that someone will buy that team and revert to his original name.

I mostly agree, but if a guy pays for a team I guess he can name his players as he sees fit.

In horse racing you can't name your horse after a champion or Hall of Famer. No Secretariat Junior. No Seattle Slew the Second.

I like the ability to change players' names. I name mine after guys I played baseball or softball with. Doubt that anyone notices the difference. And I try to find a reasonable facsimile picture for their player card.

But Hoover Vacuum at third? Dick Dover behind the plate? I remember from long ago someone naming a right-handed pitcher Paul McCartney. Just like Mickey Mantle is no A+ mentor, Paul McCartney is no righthander.

PS Mickey Mantle is 1-for-6 against my Militants this year. Struck out three times.

And 55 years ago Friday I saw the real Mickey Mantle homer to help the Yankees beat my Indians 5-0. Holy crap, 55 years....
