NO - HITTER For Seattle's Paul MARKLAND

American League


SEATTLE 7 KANSAS CITY 0

Seattle's thirty two year old right hander Paul Markland no hit the Seattle Krazies at Martin's Field in Seattle before a tuned in crowd of 30, 000 fans. Markland pitched his first career no hitter at any level and earned his first career complete game shutout in the process.

Markland threw 101 pitches, seventy one strikes and thirty balls. The right hander walked four and fanned eight.

Markland walked Tim Snyder with two out in the first inning, then struck out Brian Fallon to get out of the inning.

The fourth inning was his most difficult. First baseman Red Roggenburk made a diving stab of Jose Tyson shot over the first base bag to save a hit. Markland then walked the next two batters in the inning, Snyder and fallen, before striking out Offa Clark and getting Jose Tyson to fly out to right fielder Sammy Barnowski.

Markham walked Fallon again leading off the seventh inning. Clark struck out, but Fallon running on the pitch, stole second base. Fallon made it to third base on a ground out to second by Tyson. Markland stranded the runner by getting Bill Jones to fly out to right fielder Barnowski.

Seattle got plenty of runs for their pitcher. Roy Rixey had a run scoring ground out in the first, Sammy Barnowski hit his 10th homerun off losing pitcher Joe Carlsen in the 3rd inning. Seattle added two more in the 4th on a triple by Rogenburk and a double by Dale Olsen and second baseman Russ Rohrmeier drove in two in the seventh with a single.

Markland retired John Haase in the ninth on a fly ball to center field, Snyder on a grounder to first and struck out Fallon to end it before being mobbed by his teammates.

Seattle remained four games behind the Chicago White Hawks who downed the New York Yankees 4-3.

Kansas City fell to 23-21 six games out.

National League

The first place Shamrocks held onto a four run advantage over Atlanta by downing the Cubs 5-4 in 10 innings

Atlanta kept pace themselves four back with a 4-2 victory over Brooklyn remained five out defeating Miami 7-5.

Shamrock first inning; Chuck Parker hit his fourth of the season with two outs off Bill Corridan to give the visitors from California a 1-0 lead.

San Francisco starter Bill Conzelman gave that run right back on Erubiel Hartje's single that scorwed Mayo Turner to tie the game 1-1.

Chicago erupted for three in the bottom of the 4th. Hartje single past the shortstop and Rowland Zosky doubled into the left field corner to score him. Roy Augustine took advantage of a rattled Conzelman and took him fdeep for a 4-1 Chicago lead.

Conzellman went six innings allowed seven hits and four runs with four strikeouts and one walk.

Dave Hernandez pitched two scoreless innings for the Shamrocks, the 7th and 8th, allowing just one hit and striking out three.

The gave his teammates a chance to rally in the 9th inning off Micah Lyons. Irv Parent led off with his tenth of the season to cut the lead to 4-2. Then Mark Gonzalez saingled to center field and Mike Gonzalez walked. Julio GAorsica reached on a critical error by second baseman Bill Wheat that loaded the bases instead of there being a possible double p[lay killing off the inning.

Pinch hitter Nelson Bumbry singled in a run (Mark Gonzalez) to make it 4-3 and an infield ground out by Phil Burke tied it (Mile Gonzalez).

In the 10th inning John Mahler walked Orlando DiLauro, the lead off batter. Mahler struck out Parent and Mark Gonzalez before Mike Gonzalez line a double to center scoring Dilaurio with the go-ahead run. Mahler finished off the inning striking out Gorsica to strike out the side but the damage was done.

Joe Destrade picked up his 9th save of the season with a scoreless bottom of the 10th for San Francoisco.
