San Francisco - Chicago games two and three --late due to data loss of game two summary....

San Francisco 6 Chicago 5

You have to take the good with the bad sometimes and San Francisco had some good things happen on this day and some bad. The won a battle but may have lost a war here as they defeated the Cubs to win the game and take the series with wins in the first two games. The big loss, however was the loss of their closer Joe Destrade, who saved his 13th game this season, but was placed on the 21 day disabled list with ligament damage in the shoulder.

The Shamrock front office immediately put out trade offers with several clubs and were able to acquire veteran right hander Rudy Sconiers from Toronto for three minor league prospects and future considerations. The 32 year old right hander is 0-2 in six games all starts amounting to 33 innings pitched 44 hits, 27 runs allowed (25 earned) for a 6.82 ERA with31 strikeouts and 13 bases on balls.

The Shamrocks have not made their decision as to whether Sconiers will work out of the bullpen or start.

Bill Conzelman, recently on the shelf for a ''tired arm,'' started this game and went six innings gave up nine hits and four runs did not walk a batter, which earned him one more inning than was originally desired and he had three strikeouts , a low total which helped him out well with his pitch count.

Larry Cairo and Dave Campbell bridged the gap to the closer by pitching the 7th and 8th innings.

Cairo gave up one run on three hits and Campbell pitched around an error to escaped unscathed in the 8th.

San Francisco scored six runs on ten hits and won despite being out hit by Chicago who had 14 hits in the see-saw affair.

Conzelman allowed a run in the first inning, on a two hits, the RBI coming on a double by Erubiel Hartje, but the Shamrocks did not trail for long.

The Shamrocks opened their scoring with a power display in their half of the first inning.

Third baseman Irv Parent hit the first of two long ones he had in the game off Chicago starting pitcher Terry Lollar, with one out, and right fielder Julio Gorsica hit his 3rd round tripper with two outs giving San Francisco a 2-1 lead.

San Francisco lost a runner (Chuck Parker) strealing in the 3rd.

Mayo Turner singled and stole second leading off for Chicago in the top of the 4th inning. Hartje drove in hois second run of the game with a single past shortstop Mlke Gonzalez tying the ga,me 2-2.

Irv Parent doubled with two outs in the bottom of the 4th and Mke Gonzalez hit a bomb to deep left field (12th) to put San Francisco back on top by twop; 4-2.

Roy Augustine hit a solo homerun in the 5th to close the Cubs to within one 4-3. Lollar flied to left for the first out. George knicely tripled (3rd triple for the Cub thrid baseman) and Bill Wheat's high bouncer to third scored him tying the game 4-4.

San Francisco wemnt back in front in the bottom of the 5th.

Conzelman walked, but was picked off first and thrown out stealing thus erasing him from the bases when Phil Burke tripled. Burke scored on a deep fly ball by Chuck Parker and that was enough for the Cubs braintrust as the brought in right hander Terry Maddox to replace Lollar (4.2 IP 7H 5R/5ER 2BB/4BB LP 2-8).

Dilauro flied out to end the inning. San Francisco 5-4.

Irv Parent hit his second homer of the game, 16th of the season and 6th off Maddox to put the Shamrocks ahead 6-4.

Larry Cairo gave up a run in the 7th on three hits. Roy Augustine beat out a slow roller to shortstop. Pinch hitter Irv hickerson singled to center on an ''excuse me'' blooper. George Knicely hit a hard smash to Parent at third, who started a 5-4-3 double play. The lead runner (Augustine) advanced to third base. Bill Wheat laced a double down the right field line scoring Augustine. Turner bounced out to Parent at third to end the inning.

San Francisco 6-5

Dave Campbell pitched around trouble in the 8th as well.

Campbell sruck out Hartje to start the inning and retired Zosky on a one hopper to short. Jack Pennock singled and Carlos Benge reached on an error by Mike Gonzalez at shortstop. Augustine field out to rookie Randy Mayer in center field to end that threat.

Destrade had a good effort as well closing it out, Jack Moschitto singled by back upo catcher Chris Pointer threw out Moschitto stealing, his third such assist of the game and Knicely and Wheat flied meekly to the outfield.
