Johnny Long hit his second homer for Atlanta and Gordon Stouch hit his league best 22nd, drove in run number 56, which is one behind leader Orlando Dilauro. The switch hitting shortstop raised his batting average to a league best .346, thus giving him a legitimate shot at the triple crown this season.

San Francisco 3 Chicago 2

San Francisco ace Ron Massey went eight innings gave up six hits and two runs, one earned walked one and struck out six. Cubs starting pitcher Oscar Grieve went seven inning allowing just three hits, two of them homeruns though, one walk and seven strikeouts/

Irv Parent hit his 17th homer in the second inning with no one on to give San Francisco a 1-0 lead.

An error by shortstop mike Gonzalez and a single by Bill Wheat tied the game 1-1 in the 3rd inning.

Ike Dark's 17th homerun put the Shamrocks back in front 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th inning.

Chicago did not go quitely into the night. George kniceluy, a hitting star through out the series, hit his 6th homerun in the 8th to tie things up 2-2 in the 8th.

Pinch hitter Jason Hutchings homered off losing pitcher Ferrell Fincher in the bottom of the 8th putting San Francoisco back in front 3-2 and turning things over to new closer Dick Myers , a twenty-three year old rookie, called up originally as a starting pitcher.

Myers struck out the first batter, Ike Hickerson, then walked Shiguru Shimizu. Jack Moschitto singled, sending him to third base with no one out.

Moschitto strayed far too far off base taunting the rookie to throw over and he did...picking him off base in the key play of the game. George Schalk grounded weakly to first base to end the game and a series that featured ten homeruns hit by both teams and twenty two runs scored.

Myers earend his first career save subbing for injured Joe Destrade.
