The top three National League teams in the standings are; San Francisco 45-22 .672% win five straight, New York Giants 41-26 .612% four games out of first place and the defending World Series Champion Atlanta Hammer at 37-30 .552% eight games off the pace and fading.

Atlanta has lost eight of its last ten games since September 5 with a disappointing 4-9 record in the month of September.

Atlanta has a decent 19-15 (.545) record (18-15 on the road) began a three game series at home against the Montreal iceberg, one of the hottest teams in the league. Montreal came in to the series on a six game winning streak and were 9-4 in September.

March Osgood got the win for Montreal extending their unbeaten streak to seven. Osgood, now 6-5, went seven and a third innings, gave up five runs on seven hits, walked five and struck out five. Osgood gave way to Jim Herrnstein in the eighth with one out.

Herrnstein gave up a single to Pete Pape (three for four--batting .339 12 homeruns 41 runs batted in) and a sacrifice fly that scored Masao Sharein that made the score 7-5 Montreal.

Bill Rose closed it out for Montreal, earning his 12th save by pitching a scoreless 9th inning and striking out Gordon Stouch to end the game.

Brandon Northrup's two base error in the 3rd inning lead to Atlanta scoring twice and taking a 2-0 lead.

Montreal answered in the top of the 4th thanks greatly to two errors by Stouch who had a miserable game. The two errors combined with a single by Frank Manush and two walks to Jerry Kinsella and Juan Burchell by SAteve Fisher produced the runs.

Montreal added a single run in the 5th. Cloyd Bradley doubled to center field off Fisher. Fisher walked the next batter Manush. Kinsella hit into a double play. Bradley advanced to third base. Fisher walked Juan Burshell and Porterfield drove in his second run of the game with asingle to make it 5-2.

Atlanta cut into the lead in the 6th on Ted Hallahan's two run double to cut the lead to 5-4 Montreal.

Montreal made it 7-4 scoring two runs on three hits in the 7th on a RBI single by Manush and a RBI Atriple by Kinsella.

Montreal won it 7-5.

Giants 3 Brooklyn 1

Giants ace two time All Star Alex Rudolf became the league's second ten game winner (10-1) joining San Francisco's Ron Massey (10-3).

Rudolf complete eight innngs giving up six hits one run no walks and ten strikeouts to defeat Brooklyn 3-1.

The Giants scored three runs on five hits off losing pitcher Mike Owens (5-5 3.32) walking four and striking out eight over eight innings.

New York score two runs in the 4th ining. Owens walked Floyd Dietzel and gave up a run scoring double to Rudy Moody. Dutch Akers singled with two outs plating Moody with the second run.

2-0 New York.

Brooklyn shaved one run off that advantage in the 5th inning. Bill Hart singled and came around to score on a double by Paul Haines to make ikt 2-1.

New York added an insurance run in he 6th on a single by Bob Alvarez.

Final 3-1 New York

Nemo Chiti gave up a hit (infield single) but struck ourt one as he garnered his league leading 18th save. Chiti is a two time All Sta, tyhr 1950 Fireman of the year. His record is 1-2 in 22 games, 20 innings pitched 16 hits 7 walks 16 strikeouts 9 runs/8 earned runs, a 3.60 ERA and 65 career saves.

San Francisco 3 Miami 0

Right hander Earl Hassler (6-1)went eight innings to give the Shamrocks their fifth straight win.

Count Rosselli took the loss (3-5) lasting 6.1 innings allowing 7 hits 3 runs 3 walks 2 strikeouts.

The game was scoreless over the first three innings as both starting pitchers were very sharp. Rosselli stranded four over and Hassler one over that span.

In the bottom of the 4th San Francisco opened the scoring by getting four straifght hits to start the inning. Mike Gonzalez doubled, Mark Gonzalez singled in Mike Gonzalez. Norm Newman and Neslon Bumbry singled. Mark Gonzalez with thrown out at the plate by center fielder Jose Forsch. Hassler added a sacrifice fly.

2-0 San Francisco.

In the 7th pinch hitter Julio Dilauro singled and stole second base. Pinch hitter Chuck Parker walked. Hassler put down a bunt that forced Dilauro at third. Phil Biurke singled in Parker with the final run

Rookie Dick Myers pitched the ninth for his second save and looked much more confiedent and relaxed than in his firsrt outing as a closer following a season ending injuryh to Joe Destrade,

Myers retired Red Boone on a come backer to the mound (1-3), struck out Red Wiesenheimer and Steve Kappel flied to right field to end the game.
