Five players inducted into the Hall of Fame this year

Post by allenciox »

You can see the entire Hall of Fame (HOF) list here: http://simdynasty.com/hof.jsp?lid=3038. This year five players have been voted in who have retired in the past several years; including two relief pitchers and three outstanding batters. Following are just a taste of some of their many accomplishments:

Charlie "Two-Base" Steirer is the cream of the crop. He is the all-time doubles leader in Kevin Brown league with 624 in a major league career spanning 23 seasons. He is also fifth all-time in Home Runs, and sixteenth in OPS. In his rookie year, he not only won the Rookie of the Year award, but was also a first-team all-star and led the league in walks drawn. That was just the start of an amazing streak of twelve straight all-star years, two of which were MVP seasons. He was great shakes in the field as well, winning two golden gloves at third base. His most illustrious season was his third one. He not only swept the awards, but was also a triple-crown winner, leading the league in runs, hits, home runs, RBIS, OPS, OBP, AND Batting Average. His OPS that year was eleventh best all-time, and his batting average of .366 was the fourth best all-time.

Bios of the other four players will be made in replies to this post... stay tuned!

Re-introducing our next HOF inductee.... outfielder Chuck Young!

Post by allenciox »

Chuck Young had power and speed to match. His .902 extraordinary career OPS is fourth all-time, while his .305 career BA is twelfth. Even though he only played eighteen seasons in all, and was never an everyday player, he still managed to hit 451 balls out of the park for 23rd best all-time. He was an eight-time all-star (six of them in a row), and won a golden glove and a Rookie of the Year award as well.

During his MVP season, he led the league in BA at .340 and in Slugging Average at .615. Even though he only played in 139 games that year, he led the league in runs at 135 (almost one run per game!) and hit 40 home runs.

His retirement in 2074 was somewhat surprising but he had a number of injuries in his later years. Just think the statistics he could have compiled if he had been able to play longer. Please stand with me to welcome Chuck Young to the Kevin Brown HOF!

And now... "Mister Arm"... Al Hood!

Post by allenciox »

Al Hood was an all-star for an incredible thirteen straight years (from 2058 to 2070), and won the golden glove award in seven of them. But he will always be remembered for his incredible play behind the plate. He called such a great game that the pitchers that pitched to him really should have a star next to their ERA (assist to Al Hood!). Part of that assist as well should go to his mighty arm. During his 22-year career he caught 894 batters stealing for an incredible 36.4% Caught Stealing rate (during his heyday he had several seasons where he caught more than 40%). In addition, he almost never made a mistake --- with a lifetime Fielding percentage of .998.

Please welcome the recently retired.... Al.... Hood!

Will Fred Cunningham please come up to accept your award?

Post by allenciox »

For a number of years, hall of fame voters were reluctant to vote in career relief pitchers. But with new blood there is new thinking that the ability to close out a game might be just as valuable as being able to start it. Fred Cunningham is one such example. He retired way back in 2065 but if any relief pitcher deserves to be in the hall, it is he.

His career ERA at 2.93 is #1 ... yes, that's right, you heard me .... among all retired pitchers in the Kevin Brown league. An eight-time all-star, he also won the fireman award in 2048. He was an incredibly loyal player staying with the team that drafted him an incredible nineteen years. Just on a personal note, he will always hold a dear place in my heart as he was the very first player I ever drafted as GM of the San Francisco Gold Rushers (but enough about me!)

Please give a warm welcome to ... Fred Cunningham!

And our last inductee this year... Al Pitko!

Post by allenciox »

Another reliever, Al Pitko retired in 2070. He saved a whopping 609 games over his career which is good enough for third all time (and a whopping 87 saves ahead of the fourth place spot). With the exception of 2054 when he was hurt for a third of the season, he was an all-star for eleven straight years --- six straight where he won the fireman's award (he even won the Cy Young award as well in 2055!).

Please say hello to Al Pitko, as he makes his way up to receive his award.
