Miami 5 Pittsburgh 1

After sweeping first place Brooklyn in a three game series at home, the suddenly omnipotent Miami BeachCombers went on the road and took their fourth straight win over Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh with an impressive 4-1 victory over the Bucs.

Miami scored five runs on eleven hits, left nine runners on base and committed a error that did no harm in the scoring column.

The BeachCombers started lefthander Teddy Figueroa and he gave them seven innings scattering five hits and one run whle striking out eight. The Pittsburgh lone run came in the 5th inning when Figueroa walked Bert Hunter, and gave up singles to Frank McMichael, who was caught stealing, and a run scoring single to right field to pitcherJoe Tompkins. Figueroa struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

Pittsburgh's starter, left hander Joe Thompkins, gave up three runs on four hits in the first inning. Yo-Yo Roberts abd George Lipscombs had solid singles to open the inning and catcher Stan Dietrich lined the first of two run scoring doubles he would collect in the game to left center field driving in both runners. Dietrich scored the inning's third run on a two out clutch single by Dave Lind.

Pittsburgh thrid baseman, Lou Robinson made a sterling defensive play on a hard hit grounder and threw out Danny Mitterwald to end the inning.

Mitterwald douboled hit a liner to centerfield that found grass and rolled to the wall to ith one out in the 6th. Right hander Johnny Adams replaced Tompkins with one out in the inning and gave up a RBI single to rookie shortstop Steve Kashiwada to up the score to 3-1.

First baseman Randy Sanders robbed Yo-Yo Roberts of a possible extra base hit to start the 9th inning then committed an error that ut Ricky Hamner on base. Dietrich's second double drove in Roberts with the third run batted in for the Miami catcher.

Fred Mancuso pitched the 9th for Miami and earned his fourth save, recording two strikeouts in the inning, Sanders, to begin it, and Ed Stephenson, to end the game.

Brooklyn 5 Atlanta 3

Brooklyn snapped its longest losing streak of the season; there games, with a 5-3 win over Atlanta. Brooklyn who own a 28-8 record have two long winning streaks this season. The started the season with nine game winning streak from July 4th to July 15th and had another streak of eight games from July 27 until August 6th.

Fred Conley improved to 7-0 by going 6.2 innings. Conley allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits, struck out seven and walked two before being replaced by Wally Webster with two outs in the seventh. Webster got four outs before handing things over to closer Rick Williams in the 9th inning for his third save. Both relief pitchers recorded one strikeout.

A three run fourth inning pit Brooklyn in business with a 3-0 lead. Rudy Rose had a two run homerun in the inning and Joe Poindexter added a sacrifice fly.

An error gave by shortstop Damon Hudson gave Brooklyn another run in the 5th and a base loaded walk to Poindexter a second in route to a 5-3 win.
