MIAMI 3 NYY 0

Post by larrysiegfried20 »

Miami remains within striking distance of the wild card sport, trialing Pittsburgh by two games. Both have picked up some ground on first place Brooklyn, losers of three straight. Brookyn, at 35-15 still holds a comfortable six game lead in the National League, however with thirty games to go in the regular season schedule.

The BeachCombers have a .259 team batting average, second in the league and a 3.82 ERA, which ranks 4th. They have hit 60 homeruns (2nd) have 244 runs batted in (2nd) and 55 stolen bases (3rd).

Their pitching staff's 411 strikeouts is good enough for 2nd, 201 earned runs is 6th and 248 runs allowed is 10th. They have allowed 39 unearned runs which is far too many.

Neil Brenner (5-2) went eight innings gave up three hits and struck out five. Don Harkness pitched the ninth inning for his second save allowed just a single while facing four batters.

Brenner retired the first thirteen batters he faced picking up four of his five strikeouts he had in the game. The only other Yankee hits off Brenner were a lead off double by Fred Atkins in the sixth inning and a one out single in the seventh by Tony Conley.

3-2 Miami.
