Miami faltering in playoff drive

Miami has lost three straight to fall ten full games out of first place and more importantly, five out of second place behind Pittsburgh, who have won four straight.
The Beach Combers are also only two games ahead of fourth place San Francisco. San Francisco has won seven of its last ten to reach the .500 mark 929-290.

Miami's last loss was to first place Pittsburgh, 10-7, in the first game of a three game series.
Starting pitcher J.P. Morris went only 4.1 innings giving up four ruins on eight hits and four walks to tax an already over worked bullpen to cover the remaining 4.2 innings.

Fred Mancuso came in and got an inning ending double play in the 5th inning but walked three in the six that cost him three runs. Two of those runs scored off Don Harkness on a Randy Sowders single. Harkness gave up two runs of his own in the 8th when Jeff Mussell hit his 12 homerun of the season, the 5th allowed by Harkness in 46.1 innings pitched.

Miami had seven runs on nine hits in the game amnd left seven runners on base.

Geroge Lipscomb hit his 5th homerun of the season in the five run 4th inning, a grand slam off Tex Gallaagher, the 9th in 70 innings pitched off Gallagher who went only 3.2 innings giving up six runs on seven its. Fred Deitrich had a run scoring single in the 3rd innikng and Dave Lind a RBI double in the 8th.
