First place Brooklyn has lost ten of its last thirteen games and their comfortable lead over Pittsburgh has dwindled to just two games with ten games remaining in the regular season.

Pittsburgh came back to even its series with the Chicago Intensity with a 9-6 win. Ed Stephenson drove in four runs for Pittsburgh with a RBI single in the first inning, a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, his 8th homerun, a solo shot in the seventh inning, and a RBI ground out in the 9th.

Randy Sowers tripled in Bruce Brown (single) in the first inning and singled in Brown (walk) in the fourth. John Whaley had three hits and drove in four runs for Chicago.

Harmon Durning was the winning pitcher and Clarence Nanneri (4-8) took the loss.

Bill Pruitt (8-4) went seven and a third innings gave up eleven hits and two runs walked two and struck out five for the win. Tom Creger picked up his 20th save with a scoreless ninth inning as the Giants rode a two run homerun by Ebba Brumley, his 13th of the season, to the win.

Miami has won seven of its last ten games six of those wins on the current nine game road trip with one game remaining. The BeachCombers then return home for six ames and the play the final sereis in Pittsburgh.

If a playoff berth is in the cards it is essential to win as many games down the stretch as possible.

Miami built an early 4-0 lead for Neil Brennen in game two of their series with their cross town rivals. Niles Hensley singled stole second and scored on a triple by rookie catcher Irv Daringer in the second inning.

Three more runs scored in the third inning. Lead off batter Neil Roberts reached second base when center fielder Ed Perkins dropped his flyball to center field.Mark Archer walked with one out.and Niles hensley doubled with two outs, driving in Roberts and Archers, and then Daringer drove in Hensley with a single.

Neil Brenner went seven strong innings before faltering with two out in the eighth and needed relief help. Brennen gave up 7 hits and no runs walked one and struck out six.

George Hughes came in with one on and two out, walked a batter then got the final out of the inning.

Bert Alexander set Miami down in order in the top of the ninth inning.

The ninth inning was problematic for both Hughes and Don Harkness. Hughes gave up a lead off double to Ed Perkins and a pinch hit RBI single to Jim Crosby.

That brought in Harkness. Harkness gave up a pinch hit single to Walt Pieretti. A ground out put Crosby on third base and Pieretti on second with one out. Harkness got a very big second out striking out Matt Chiozza but gave up a two run single to Heini Hoyt bringing Florida to within one run. Frank Vandargrift flied out to right field to end the game and give Harkness his 6th save.
