Miami won its ninth straight game and won late in the game once again. For the first time this season the Miami bullpen blew a lead and for the fourth straight game the bullpen was awarded the win.

Miami is now 26-9 (.743) and 9-1 in its last ten. Its lead over Pittsburgh grew to five over Pittsburgh who were rolled over 10-1 by San Francisco and six over Florida who were defeated by New York 9-2. Brooklyn improved to 17-18 with a 6-1 victory over. Brooklyn is seven games off the leader's pace.

Neil Brenner started the game and went seven innings and one-third innings allowed three hits and one run (earned) walked three and struck out seven. He left the game with a 1-0 lead.

Miami scored that run in the second inning. Yde walked Neil Roberts who stole secondbase (2nd), Dave Lind grounded out to shortstop Damon Hudson. Danny Moore struck out. David Kuhn singled to right field driving in Roberts. There was no more scoring until the 8th inning.

Miami left one on in the second, two in the third and one in the seventh.

Atlanta left two on in the sixth inning after getting the first two hitters of the inning on base. Pitcher Tom Yde walked and Jack Veryzer singled. Brenner struck out Darnell and Hudson and Hearn grounded into a fielders choice to end that inning.

Atlanta tied the game 1-1 in the 8th inning. Guinn walked. Bob Lee pinch hit for Tom Yde. While Lee was batting Guinn stole second base. Gerorge Hughes replaced Brenner. Hughes gave up a game tying double to Jack Veryzer.

Miami retook the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning. Roberts singled, Lipscomb walked and Scarritt singled to load the bases. Stan Dietrich's sacrifice fly scored Roberts with the go ahead run. Dick Irabu replaced Crowley and got the final two outs.


Don Harkness came on for his 14th save and earned it by striking out Hearn, getting Shotton on a fly out to centerfelder Dave Collins. Rollings walked and Ace Davey struck out.
