The Miami BeachCombers are 13-5 have won three straight and eight of their last ten games. The lead the 12-6 Chicago Colts by one game, te 11-7 Pittsburgh Bucs by two games and the 10-8 Brooklyn Dodger Blues by three games.Pitching has carried the 'Combers to the top thus far. The pitching staff has the lowest ERA in the league (2.98) and the hitters are heating up, batting .299 over the last ten games.

In todays action Chicago pounded Florida 10-5. Brooklyn took out their hated rivals, the Giants, 7-1 and Atlanta waltzed by Pittsburgh was manhandled by the San Francisco Giants 8-5.

MIAMI 8 NEW YORK 5

Miami scored 8 runs on a season high 18 hits to bag their third straight win in New York. New York has lost five of their last six games.

Miami with 75 homeruns this season which ranks fifth in the league in homers, hit four in this game and Miami's bullpen covered up a bad outing by starting pitcher Barbaro Rosario who lasted only four innings. Rosario (1-2 3.30 ERA) gave up five runs on six hits including two homeruns to Ben Saunders (4th) and Elmer Semproch (2nd).

New York starter Johnny McAnally was worse, leaving with one out in the fourth after giving up six runs on ten hits. The Yankee bullpen was not as effective as Miami's.

George Hughes went three innings allowing two hits walking two striking out two for the win (2-0). Phil Salveson put in one scoreless inning and Don Harkness worked a scoreless ninth for his 9th save.

Miami got off to a 2-0 lead in the first innng when Paul Deihl (7th) homered with one on.

The Yankees roughed up Rosario in the top of the second scoring five runs to take a 5-2 lead. Pat Fisher had a run scoring double. Elmer Semroch hit a two run homerun, his 2nd, and Ben Saunders hit his 4th with pitcher Johnny McAnally aboard to put the home team in front 5-2.

Miami third baseman David Lind, four for four in the game, led off the 2nd with his 3rd homerun of the season cutting the lead to 5-3. Lind was in the mix again in the 7th when he singled to leftfield and scored on pinch hitter Neil Roberts (batting for the winning pitcher Rosario), hit a homerun (his 4th) to tie the game 5-5. Roberts grounded back to the mound for the first out. and Niles Hensley solved McaNally for another homerun (2nd) that put Miami in front again 6-5.

Brad Campanella replaced McAnally. Diehl, the first batter he faced, singled to left field. Catcher Stan Dietrich doubled him in. 7-5 Miami.

Miami added a final run in the 5th. Jose Katz singled to left field. David Lind completed his perfect day at the plate with a single. Pitcher George Hughespopped up a bunt. Tyson Jarvis replaced Campanella and Yo-Yo Roberts drove in Katz with a single to make the final score 8-5.
