Houston 4 Colorado 3

Houston has won two straight and seven of its last ten games. Houston is 24-15 (.615) is one game behind first place Pittsburgh 25-15 (.641).

The Houston Range Rovers won the rubber game of their series with the Colorado Storm at Audie Murphy Memorial Stadium 4-4. Allen Connolly picked up the victory (4-1) as he struck out a season high nine over eight innings walking one and allowing five hits. (2 hrs)

Colorado took the first lead scoring two runs in the 4th inning. Win Werts hit his 4th homerun of the season and 8th off Connolly leading off the inning. Jack Spilman doubled to riught field amnd scpored on a single by Jack Alexander. 2-0 Colorado..

Houston cut the lead in half in the bottom of the 4th. Dick Moore doubled past first baseman, Bill Messersmith. Moore stole thrid base with one out. Bob Casian got the run home with a grounder to first. 2-1 Colorado.

Rob Abbott put Colorado back in front by two with his 3rd homerun in the 5th inning, the 9th hit off Connolly, second in this game.

In the bottom of the 7th Houston rallied for three runs and a 4-3 lead. Rick Carey singled. Carey was caught stealing. Casian singled and stole his 11th base. Tom Spooner singeled home Casian. Spooner advanced to second base on a ground out by George Bashear, starting at first base now for Houston. Jim Shaw singled in the tying run (Spooner) with a line drive to center field. Pinch hitter Bucky Ludwig doubled driving in the go-ahead run.

Al Boever pickled up save number 14 with a scoreless 9th inning.

Pirates 3 Colorado 2

The Piraters took two of three from St Louis and the three top contenders are all now 3-3 head to head, but St Louis has lost two of three recently to both houston and Pittsburgh.

Randy Blackburne, the fourth pitcher used by Pittsburgh got the win (2-1 4.68).

Don Foytack started for Pittsburgh and went six innings (1 run 3 hits), Rick Farrell went 1.2 inning and gave up a game tyng homerun to Jack McKain in the 7th inning. Singles by Mike Redmond, Paul Smith and Stan Jackson put Pittsburgh ahead 2-1.

Farrell gave up a game tying homerun to Don White in the 8th inning.

Sugar Loman, on a roll of late, had a bad outing. Loman walked Redmond leading off the 9th. Paul Smith got him to second grounding to first. Glen Jackson struck out for the second out. Loman then walked Ray holden, Matt Libran, and Ray Brown to force in the winning run.

San Diego 2 Chicago 0

Jeff Anderson went eight shurtout innings for San Diego, allowed two hits walked two and struck out five. Bruce Bradley pitched a spcrel;ss 9th allowing one bhits a walk and striking out two.

Javier Dominguez hit a two run homerun in the 4th inning to provide all the scoring.
