Houston is now 5-0 in extra innings this season.

Chicago is 3-5.

Houston gave the struggling thirty two year old left hander a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Andy Benton doubled with two out and Jay Riley followed that double with one of his own to drive in the first run. 1-0 Houston.

Chad Thurman led off the 5th with a single. Bucky Ludwig made a sensational catch of Chico Guterrez' bid for an extra base hit for the first out and Thurman did not advance. Pitcher Jose Morales bunt attempt was started by the pitcher Ray Valdes to shortstop Jay Riley to Benton at first.

Chicago scored in the 6th to tie the game 1-1 on singles by Morales and Galaraga that put runners on first and third and a sacriufice fly by Posada.

Roberto Millan put Chicago ahead 2-1 with a solo homerun in the 8th inning. It was his 7th, this season.

A double by pinch hitter Dave Crawford, batting for Valdes, to begin the 8th inning and a single by Bucky Ludwing singled to left field put runners on first and third with no outs. Joe Shaw struck out. Tom Spooner drew a walk that loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly by Rick Carey produced the only run the Rovers mustered in the inning.

2-2 after nine complete.

The bottom of the 10th decided it.

Rookie Julio McGee made his major league debut, pinch hitting for pitcher Carlos Rizzo, who worked two scoreless inning, the 9th and 10th with two strikeouts. Reiliever Juan Garrido working his second inning walked the rookie. Second baseman Joe Shaw's double drove across the winmning run.

Carlos Rizzo got the win 2-0 and Juan Garrido absorbed the loss.

Houston journeys to Pittsburgh for a big series with first place Pittsburgh amnd once again calls on Glenn Emslie to pitch for a energy deflated team.
