Houston 5 San Diego 3

Charlie Onis beset by the homerun ball over his last few starts started against San Diego and went 8.2 innings and did not give up one He allowed eight hits and three runs walked two and struck out five for the win. He came very close to getting his second complete game of the season but fell one out short in the ninth of going all nine innings.

In the ninth inning Onis began it by getting Eduardo Sanchez to ground out to second baseman Paul Ankiel. Ramon Baerga singled to right field. The next batter Francisco Diaz forced Baerga at second, Wally Johnson to Ankeil for the out. DAiaz beat Ankiel's throw to first baseman George Brashear. now their were two outs. Pinch hitter Alex Ramirez, batting for pitcher Jose Aguilar doubled driving in Diaz cutting the scire to 5-2 and that was all foir Onis.

The league's leading closer, Al Boever, camne in to finish it off. However, Randall North greeted him with a solid single scoring Ramirez and inching Chicago a little closer at 5-3. That was as close as they would come as Juan Bonilla flied out to left fielder Bucky ludwig to end the game.

Boever thus picked up another save, his 27th. Onis was the winning pitcher (7-6) and Ross Cardwell the losing pitcher 3-6.

Rick Carey hit his 8th homer in the second for Houston and Bob Casian hit a two run homer in the 6th, his 15th.

Cardinals 6 Phillies 2

Maury Moeller joined teammate Alex Waslewski (10-4 1.72) and the Pittsburgh Pirates' George Gonzalez (10-3 3.47) in the ten win club this season.

Jackie Pearson (4-5) took the loss.

Moeller went 7.2 innings allowed 8 hits and 2 ruins walked 3 and struck out 7.

Pearson allowed Pete Crompton's 13th homerun in the 4th inning. It came with two outs and nobody on.

St Louis added a run in the 5th to go ahead 2-0 on a ground out by first baseman Don White.

A Ken Bowen RBI single put a run on the scoreboard for the Phils in the bottom of the 5th.

St Louis went ahead 3-1 on lead off batter Charley Williams 14th of the season in the top of the 6th. Williams and Crompton have carried the Cardinals during their streak.

This one ended 6-2 and was the Cardinals sixth straight win
