St. Louis 5 Houston 3

St Louis roared into their home series with Houston on a seven game won streak trialing the first place RangeRovers by just two games. The extended their winning ways by two games moving into a tie with Houston for first place. Lets not give away all that happened before we deal with those two games played before an raucous and roaring capacity crowd that loudly cheered every play for their home team.

In game one St. Louis starter Frank Roth gave up a run in the first inning. Roth walked Paul Ankiel with one out and Ankeil stole second base on Roth who did not hold him on very well. Ankeil then scored on a single by second baseman Joe Shaw.

Glenn Emslie came into this series on a five game on a fivre game wining streak since joining Houston. He would suffer his foirst loss with Houston (7-6). In the bottom of the first he allowed back to back homeruns to Don White (12th) and Tommy Panther (8th) toi put St. Louis ahead 2-1.

Roth lasted 6.1 innings (6H 3R/3ER 1BB/2SO) surrendered that lead in the 4th inning. Tom Spooner hit a two run homerun putting Houston back in front 3-2.

Emslie pitched very well after that first inning giving up just three hits and a walk through seven innings. Two of the hits were doubles by White and the other a single Pat Charles.

Roth allowed a one out triple to Bob Casian in the seventh. He was taken out and replaced by john Marion. Marion retired catcher Doc Jenkins on a fly out but walked both the pitcher, Emslie, and Bucky Ludwig to load the bases with two outs. Houston blew this big chance to extend their lead when pinch hitter Joel Edwards bounced out to second base.

St. Louis tied the game 3-3 in the 8th on a solo homerun by Rod Anderson. Panther singled and Pete Crompton a two run shot (15th) to put St. Louis ahead 5-3 and Raul Cree keep it right there for his 17th save.
