New York makes splash with big trade

Post by ofan1987 »

When Cincinnati got a new owner, the MPL was unsure what they were getting... what they got was a man who isn't afraid to make changes. The team packed their bags and went to New York and became the Ninja Turtles. They then drafted teenage stud Bill Carmona and packaged him with draft picks to net five major league starters from Atlanta. Flamethrower Jeff Stovall and frail stud hitter Kevin Walters were called up, giving the team 7 new players on the roster for 2035, while top prospect Roberto Briggs, a spark plug utility man, stays in the minors to hone his skills.

Coming off a 73 win campaign, Vegas projects the team to win 92 games and come in 3rd, but the new faces in town hope to prove the projections conservative. For fans of the team, here is a brief snapshot of the new players and their likely 2035 contribution:

SP Noodles Smith- A 2 time all star who has struggled to find a consistent role on a pitching staff, Noodles will slot in as the 2nd starter on a team with six viable starting options. Projected: 18-10 record, 3.38 ERA

SP Jeff Stovall- 23 year old rookie who will start the season as the 4th starter. Expected to split starts with Dick Manuel, another young starter. Projected: 18 starts, 18 relief appearances, 13-11 record, 4.24 ERA

C Lenny Fox- one of the centerpieces of the Atlanta trade. Only 27 years old and started the all star game last year. Expected to be more aggressive on the basepaths with New York. Projected: .294 avg, 16 HR, 69 RBI, 31 SB

1B Scott Quillen- 27 year old acquired in Atlanta trade. Fixed big hole in New York's roster and expected to be an everyday player. Will typically bat at the bottom of the lineup. Not a big bat for a first baseman, but has shown ability to hit for average and runs well. Projected: .281 avg, 17 HR, 71 RBI, 22 SB

2B Doug Michalak- one of the leagues best table setters should still have a couple good years left in him. 4 time all star, 2 time batting champ and 3 time on base champion. At 33, is moving into LF to keep his bat in the lineup as the New York infield is very deep. Projected: .307 avg, .388 obp, 18 HR, 25 SB

SS Hal Walker- The face of the Atlanta franchise for the past decade. A future Hall of Famer with 4 MVP awards to his credit. Now 36, expect his numbers to decline, but will provide valuable mentoring as well as good production. Projected: .287 avg, 26 hr, 101 RBI

RF Kevin Walters- a Rookie of the Year candidate. Projected to have one of the best bats in the league over the next decade. Always at risk to injury, so will be platooning with Frank Kemner. Projected: .268 avg, 21 HR
