New Guy - little help

Post by AllenMac »

So I've made a few trade offers to different teams, and it appears I'm pretty much completely wrong about the value of players in this league.

Can anyone offer me a perspective on the value of these players in trade?

Danny McClain

Cody Bellinger

Tim Housley

You can post below or send me a private message, I'm just looking to understand trade values in general, as it applies to this league. Obviously I don't understand so well based on my past experiences with other leagues.

Thanks!

My Chicago team might be a team to try to make a trade with for players like those. All 3 are fairly complementary players in my opinion. The problem with those types are that most rosters that are close to competing are already set with current players that are near the same.

My personal advice: If you really think they are All-Star level performers, then play them like they need to be played (everyday). Then, if they are among the league leaders statistically, you have very real evidence to show other owners. In other words, if you think Bellinger and McClain are backups on your roster, then why would a contender want them? It looks like you can use Hosley as a platoon guy against Lefties, but even then he's not worth much. Play him as much as possible against LHP and hope he gets lucky. Someone might offer a decent minor leaguer, but you are going to be limited because of the sink or swim nature of the league competition.

The reason to offer them in trade is because they're not going to start for my team while I develop other, younger players. Better to get something I can use in the future if those guy are just going to be wasted.

I took over a team that had been ignored, meaning it was just floating - my decision was to get younger, eventually better, then maintain the higher level of performance. Still many holes to fill. Need lots of young assets...

We shall see if I can successfully pull it off ... time will tell.

Well, looks like you got a #29-32 range 2nd for the most interesting of the 3 players. That's fair. The other 2 might just be worth keeping on your bench while starting younger guys. Especially McClain. You can get a .665 OPS player off of waivers; you don't have to trade for that.
