League Paused

Post by ballmark » Thu Mar 26, 2020 6:50 am

I've asked Chris to pause the league until he can:

A) Get the site back online.
B) Get the mess cleaned up.
C) Get our free agency mess cleaned up.
D) Re-run our final day of free agency (if possible, I really hope it is).
E) Re-start our league with our final off-season day of opening the waiver wire and then on with SimYear 2051.

No argument. The BZL is definitely messy. And he knows. I've told him.

But patience and kindness are the watchwords here.

Sadly, this came at the worst time possible, because for many, all we have is time with the "stay home, stay safe" quarantines in place. It sure would have been nice to have the Sim to fall back on.

It's a cliche, but kind thoughts and good prayers are about all we've got from this end of the swamp. Let Admin do his job and don't add to the stress by piling on about how long it's taking. He's one man and I know from talking with him that he's putting in roughly 20 hour days trying to get things fixed. (I'm one of the site's FB Page Admins so I do get access to him periodically.)

But the site has been up and running for 20 years and that's hella load of data to churn through when you're bug hunting and migrating to a better platform so this doesn't happen again. Or at least happen again anytime soon.

Mark, as always, thoughtful and well put. The CEO of my company wrote this in an email to us yesterday and it should be applicable all the time, not just now."We are living in a complex time, but one thing remains simple – human kindness. Let’s look for it, let’s exemplify it and let’s keep it present in all we do."

That outage seems to have created a mess in many, many leagues. I guess we could be waiting awhile, but at least this doesn’t happen often.

It's happened often in another football sim I play.

Do we have any sense of when the FA period will resume?

I am keeping a close watch on the Update thread (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=20019) and when I get a sense that the issues there are beginning to quiet down - they are not, as of this writing - I will ask Chris to tackle the BZL, which is a Gordian Knot mess all of its own.

I expect it to be about 2-3 more days real time, honestly, but I promise to raise the issue tomorrow so it pops up on his radar.
