Florida Rattlesnakes 5 Brooklyn Dodgers 2

Florida had a five game winning streak stopped and suffered two losses before claiming their most exhilarating victory of the season, a 5-2 win over first place Brooklyn, that snapped Brooklyn's ten game winning streak, the longest by any team thus far this season.

Veteran Ray Klink went eight innings for his second win in three decisions this season. Klink allowed five hits and one run (earned) with two walks and six strikeouts. Buddy Eubank did not retire the only batter he faced in the 9th inning. Bill Mashore hit a solo homerun. Bob Mensor came in then and closed out the game for his 3rd save.

Florida took a three run lead in the 4th inning on singles by Bill Orosco and Rich Sosa, and a two run double by Dee Young. Young scored the third run on a double to right field by Jerry Poland.

The Dodgers put a run on the board on a double by Mashore that drove in Hugo Gonzalez who reached on a fielders choice. Mashore tried to score from second on a single by Walt Ramsey but Lefty Mathis threw him out at the plate. 3-1 Florida.

Florida scored a run in the 8th inning on a Mike Arnold single and another in the 9th on a solo homerun by Dennis Reinbach, his 1st, coming off Scott Unser (1st allowed).

Mashore's 9th inning blast made the final score 5-2.

In 11 Innings

San Francisco won in extra inning to improve their record to 12-8 and move into sole possession of 2nd place, four games behind Brooklyn.

The Giants scored five runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to tie the game 5-5 and send the game into extra innings. Charlie Gardiner had a two run double, Karl Maun, a run scoring single, one run came in on a double play ball and Pep Dimechele hit a solo homerun off relief pitcher Arch Moulton.

Dimechele had another shining moment in the 11th inning when he singled, driving the winning run in in the person of Robby Sutherland who reafhed on an error by center fielder Brian Spencer.

Brooklyn 7 Florida 5

Brooiklyn snapped their two game losing streak behind undefeated Mike Mirabelli, 3-0. Mirabelli had one of his better performances this season going 7.2 innings 7 hits 5 runs, all earned, but the lefthander did walk six and had six strikeouts as wqell.

Leo Nuxhall, the talented young 22 year old lefthander was touched up for four runs in the 1st inning by the Dodgers who have a habit of scoring a lot in the early innings. Buck Thomas began this one with a double to left center field. Hugo Gonzalez' one out single to right field drove in Thomas with the first run. Bill Hicks advanced Gonzalez to third base with the Dodgers third hit of the inning. A two base fielding error by left fielder Mike Arnold let in two runs (Gonzalez and Hicks). Walt Ramsey's single down the right field line droive in Mashore to make it 4-0 Brooklyn.

Florida came back with a three run inning in the 3rd.

Kevin LaMotte doubled and Left Mathis homered off Mirabelli. LaMotte's 3rd of the season and the 1st given up by Mirabelli in 25 innings. Catcher Milo Lowdermilk walked and scored on a single by Rich Sosa.

4-3 Florida.

Brooklyn added two runs on three hits in the 4th inning to build the lead to 6-3. Dodger catcher Phil Allen drove in both runs with a single to right field scoring Ramsey and Brewington who both got on with singles.

That lead held up. Mirabelli put two on with two out in the eight and Fred Plunkett was summoned to strikeout slugger Dennis Reinbach to end the 8th inning.

Tony Post picked up his 9th save striking out one in the ninth inning.
