Dodgers 4 San Diego 1

The Dodgers still lead the National League by three games over San Francisco, but have been a rather pedestrian 2-3 allowing 25 runs while scoring only 18 since their season longest 10 game winning streak was broken by Florida.

San Francisco, on the other hand, has a six game winning streak going now and will be in Brooklyn on the first, second and third of August when the Dodgers return for their current road trip.

Mark Hudson played the role of stopper for the Dodgers who dropped game three of their home finale to Florida. The Dodgers lost that series two games to one.

Hudson, 4-1 2.63 ERA, gave up one run on five hits over eight innings walking one and striking out six for the win and Tony Post faced three batters and struck out Paddy Taylor to end the game earning him his league leading 10th save.

Post has appeared in 12 games, pitched 10 innings allowed 4 hits (all singles to 33 batters (.121 batting average against). Post has pitched to contact striking out just seven and walking five.

Topper Ross made the start for San Diego and had first inning problems allowing a lead off single to Buck Thomas and a run scoring double to Hugo Gonzalez to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

The game was scoreless for the next two innings until the Dodgers added a run in the 4th inning. Ross put the lead off batter, Bill Mashore, who stole second base, and scored on a one out single by shortstop Danny Clemons. 2-0 Dodgers but it could have been more had not third baseman Paddy Taylor made a great defensive play to rob Phil Allen of a double down the left field line.

Brooklyn added another vrn in the 5th inning when Thomas reached on an error on left fielder Dick Souchock and scored when Gonzalez lined a double past first baseman Justin Vernon and into the rightfield corner.

Al Trowbidge's solo homerun (2nd) in the bottom of the 5th off Hudson (2nd allowed in 37.2 innings pitched) cut the lead to 3-1.

Brooklyn socred the game's final run in the top of the 8th to go ahead 4-1. Bill Mashore doubled with one out off Ross (LP 2-1) and Walt Ramsey doubled with two outs off his replacement Arch Moulton.

Final score 4-1.

GIANTS 10 MONTREAL 7

In 11 Innings at Mays Field.

Dick Chatham, Montreal second baseman, went 3 for 5, scored two runs, drove in four runs, and had six chances in the field (3 assists-3 putouts 2 double plays) in the losing cause.

Chatham had a two run single in the second and a two run homerun in the 5th that gave Montreal a 6-1 lead.

The Giants scored the next nine unanswered runs to win in extra innings.

San Francisco cut the lead to 6-4 with thre runs in the 7th inning on a Jose Spindel RBI triple, and run scoring singles by Marcus Anderson and Ed Phillips. 6-4 Montreal.

Montreal tacked on a run in the top of the 8th to go up 7-4 on a sacrifice fly hit by Juan Raudman.

San Francisco tied it in the bottom of the 9th with three runs off Montreal closer Glen Sullivan (blown save).

Charlie Gardiner doubled to center field to start the inning. Spindell singled past first baseman Rich Lamabe sending Gardiner to third base with no body out. Spindell was caught stealing for the first out which cost San Francisco the win in nine innings.

Mike Nealon hit a two run homerun to bring the Giants within one; 7-6.

Marcus Anderson lined a single to centerfield with one out. Sullivan then walked Joe McClain and pinch hittef Felix Bedell singled in Anderson with the tying run off relief pitcher Johnny Pepper.

Pepper retitred the next two to send it into extra inniungs.

Fred Henderson pitched the final two innings for the Giants ad got the win (3-1 2IP 1H 0ER 1BB/1SO).

Red Brown took the loss 0-1. Brown came in for the last 1.2IP gave up one hit, a game winning three run homerun to Robby Sutherland. Marcus Anderson on with a single and Henderson, who drew a walk, scored in front of him.

Pittsburgh 4 Cubbies 3

Pittsburgh edged the Cubbie 4-3. Yohanny Schliebner (3-1) was te winning pitcher working just one inning in relief of starting pitcher Alex Wells who struck out a career high twelve batters over eight innings. Wells gave up three runs on seven hits and walked four.

Pittsburgh came back late in this game to win by scoring all four of their rus over the last three innings. Losing pitcher Ray DePaula gave up two doubles in the ninth inning to Brian Aguayo and Ernie Dashner to plate the winning run.

Rich Gmpert the wimnneing pitcher, 1-1.

Bob Mensor earned his 4th save.

Jimmy Flankskamper (3rd) and Mike Ashburn (1st) homered for St. Louis.
