Brooklyn and Florida are now tied for first place in the National League after Florida lost its fourth straight and eight of their last ten by a score 0f 6-4.

Montreal is now 30-32, six games behind the co-leaders.

Brooklyn's surge has been accomplished in part because of a strong starting pithing staff. Russ Perry (7-5 3.83), Bill Woodward (8-3 3.52), Alvin Hockett (7-4 2.70), Mark Hudson (5-4 3.56) and Mike Mirabelli (5-2 3.68). Roy Aldred (1-4 4.91 1 save), and Tomas Estrada (0-1 4.04 13 saves) comprised a major part of the bullpen that lends valuable relief to those starters.

The Dodgers lead the National League in six offensive categories; batting average (.280), slugging ,451 runs scored (317), stolen bases (151), RBI (307), and 66 homeruns.

The Dodgers defense has given up two unearned runs over the last eighteen games by committing just five errors.


Brooklyn scored two runs in the second to take on 2-0 lead. Tom Dauss walked and scored on Bill Hicks triple. Hicks then came in to score on Gary Lee's single to center field.

Montreal tied the game in the third inning. Dodger starting pitcher Alvin Hockett walked Billy Daniel with no one out. Rick Evans, the pitcher, bunted him to second base. Erv Kemmler and Ernie Phillips singled Daniel. Kemmler scored on a double by Rich Lamab 2-2.

Brooklyn took another lead in the bottom of the 4th. Dauss, the jack of all trades utility man, singled past shortstop Buddy Sikorski.Dauss scored on a single by catcher Boris Mankowski.

Montreal tied the game 3-3. Ernie Phillips doubled to right field. Lamabe flied to center field. Lauren Wilie struck out. Jawhawk Rickert doubled past third baseman Dauss.

In the 5th inning Jim Pate singled and Hugo Gonzalez it his 12th of the season putting the Dodgers ahead 5-3. It was Gonzalez 12th of the season tying him with three other for the National League.

Gonzalez also had an eighth inning single along with Dauss to set up a score by Gonzalez on Bill Hicks ground out. 6-3 in route to a 6-4 final.
