Game one.

Brooklyn 6 Florida 2

In the show down between the top two clubs in the National League, the Brooklyn Dodgers extended their currently winningstreak to four games and snapped the three game streak of defending National League champion, Florida. The win put vthe Dodgers in sole possesion of first place with two games remaining in the series.

Brooklyn scored six runs on fourteen hits in the game. Florida managed two runs on seven hits and neither team committed an error.
Righthander Russ Davey (7-5 3.87) made the start for Brooklyn and Florida countered with Ray Klink (8-6 2,77).

Davey ent seven innings and did not figure in the final decision. Davey allowed two runs on six hits walked three and struck ouy seven.

Florida scoired its first run in the third inning when Davey walked the eight place hitter, catcher Milo Lowdermilk. That enabled the pitcher to bunt the runner to second base with one out. Steve Walker drew the second base on balls of the inning with two outs and Kevin LaMotta came through with a two out singled to drive in the game's first run.

Florida's second score came in the seventh inning and a walk also figured into that scoring as well. LaMotta walked with one out in the inning and scored on a triple by Dennis Reinbach. Dave did some of his best pitching to get out of this inning with no further scoring. he struck out Eric Armstrong and got Bill Orosco on a comwebacker to the mound.

Brroklyn finally broke through against Klink in the botom of the sixth inning on Bill hicks solo homerun, his 7th of the season to cut the lead in half.

One inning later pinch hitter (for Davey) Bob Jorgenson singled with two outs off the tiring Klink and Tom Dauss doubled to tie the score.

Klink faced one batter in the eighth inning, Walt Wilkinson reached on a infield single off the glove of the shortstop. Bobby Drew came in in a pitching change and gave up a single to the first batter he faced, Bill Hicks, that sent the runner, Wilkinson to third base.

Florida brought the infield in. Bruce Kaufman shot one through the draw in infielders to score Wilkinson. Hicks went to third base on the play. Pinch hitter Bill Mashore, batting for Sarge Scarrit, grounded weakly to first allowing the run to score from third base. Pate singled with two outs and stole his league best 28th base. Buck Thomas' single scored both Kaufman and Pate to put Brooklyn in command 6-2.

Tony Post pitched the eight inning for Brooklyn and got the win (3-3). Roy Aldred pitched the ninth to seal the win for Brooklyn.
