The Brooklyn Dodgers continue to get great pitching. Their number one starter Russ Davey went eight innings and began the game with superior stuff retiring the first twelve batters he faced getting seven on ground ball outs, one pop out, and four strikeouts.

Brooklyn added a second run on in the second inning. Bruce Kaufman singled, catcher Phil Allen singled. Kaufman to second base. Pitcher Russ Davey bunted both runners along being thrown out by first baseman Damian Kopacz to second baseman Steve Chambliss covering first base. Pate scored from third base on a sacrifice fly by Jim Pate, his second RBI of the game.

Mel Alston cut the lead in half with his 4th homerun of the season. Luis Robinson (4 for 10 in the series - 4 runs scored) singled. Jim Kinzy walked. Kopacz flied out to Kaufman in right field. Davey walked Keith Adams to fill the bases. With the game on the line in September Davey buckled down and struck out the pitcher. Yochim who batted for himself and then got Herbie Crespo swinging to escape with a 2-1 lead.

Brooklyn put two on in the 6th when Brooklyn put two on. One runner was caught stealing and one left on base.

Pittsburgh rallied to tie the game in the 7th. Damian Kopacz hit his 3rd homerun of the season off Davey to tie the game 2-2. It was the 7th allowed by Davet in 119.2 innings pitched.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh Pittsburgh second baseman Steve Chambliss booted a routine ground ball hit by Jim Pate for an error. The speedy Pate stole his league leading 31st base. Buck Thomas walked to put runners on foirst and second with two outs. The Swiss Army Knife, Tom Dauss, singled past shortstop Herbie Crespo to drive in the go ahead run.

In Davey's last inning he gave up a one pout single to Chambliss then got a double play started by Thomas, at second.

The in the ninth big Tomas Estrada gave up a one out single. Third baseman Tom Dauss started a 5-4-3 game ending double play.
