Texas 2 Minnesota 1

Tiger, one of four teams embroiled in a fiercely competitive early pennant race, moved in sole possession of first place by one game with a 2-1 victory over the sixth place Minnesota Twins in game two of the three game series. Texas took game one of the series 5-4 in ten innings.

The Aardvarks have had problems with their starting pitching of late causing them to designate right hander Rocky Frazier for assignment and bring up twenty one year old left hander Joel Dahlgren from Hog Pen Arkansas, a sixth round draft pick in 1950.

Dahlgren made his debut opposed by another young phenom, twenty two year old lefty Dave Noren, a 5th round draft pick from Detroit, Michigan, making his sixth start of the season.

Bill Command got to the rookie before his opening game jitters wore off for his 7th homerun of the season, a blast to deep left field putting Minnesota in front 1-0.

Texas tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the 3rd.

Catcher Reggie Bordi doubled down the right field line with no one out. Dahlgren's firsrt major league at bat was a succusful sacrifice but (5-4) advancing the runner to third base with one out. Butch Gentry drove in the run from there with a single to right field.

Dahlgren settled down amd pitched extremely well. Bill Glenn had two hits off Dahlgren, a first inning single, and a double in the third inning, but in the fifth inning Steve Chaney singled and Noren forced him at second with a bad bunt, Glenn grounded into a double play started by third baseman Domonosky to end the inning.

Noren was nothing if not outstanding. Aften giving up those two hits that tied the game in the thrid inning he retired seventeen batters in a row striking out eight before Dan Thielman doubled with one out in the ninth. He was replaced by Tony Sudakis who gave up the game winning hit to Dave Hudson.

Kal Rowe retired the final two batters in the 9th picked up his third win in relief without a defeat.
