New York 5 Chicago 2

Flame Hestelfer (4-4) got the win and Lefty Pate (2-6 absorbed the loss for Chicago who dropped to 12-27 four games deep in the cellear.

Walter Gonzalez save it for New York, his 10th.

Jay LeMaster homered in the second, his 4th, and Duane Garcia hit a two run homer in the four run eight when new York took a 5-2 lead

Boston 4 Kansas City 0

Bill Hewitt (4-4) shutout slumping Kansas City on five hits over nine innings with two walks and eleven strikeouts. Shortstop Biff Howard, the hitting star for Boston ( two for three a run scored and three RBI) was placed on the disabled list and will be out at least a month with an unspecified injury to his ankle.

Kansas City, in first place just a short time ago, lost its eighth straight game and dropped into third place.

Texas 4 Minnesota 3

Texas has it going in the right doirection right now sweeping seventh place Minnesota 5-4 in game three of the series at Woodmen of the World Stadium in Houston.

Texas is 4-2 this season against Minnesota. The scoring in the series has been close. The Aardvarks have scored 20 runs against Minnesota and allowed 18.

Jim Bowman, one of Texas strongest starting pitchers lately in a rotation that has had its problems, went 7.1 innings, allowed five hits and two runs, both earned, walked 3 and struck out 10 to improve to 5-4 with a 3.04 ERA.

Texas did most of its offensive damage in the 5th inning scoring three runs on three hits in a long inning for Sam Perry, Minnesota's starting pitcher. Perry, the losing pitcher (3-5) lasted 7.2 innings allowing seven hits and four runs walked three and struck out three faced eight batters in the 5th.

Perry got himself off to a bad start in the inning by walking lead off batter Phil Bisland.

Bowman failed to get a bunt down and popped out to second as a result.

Dan Thielman, a very hot hitter, batting .307, singled to right field sending Bisland to third base. Adam Abstein singled to left driving in his 17th run of the season. Thielman scampered around to third base. Dave Hudson and Craig Olmonosky followed with RBI singles putting Texas in the drivers seat 3-1.

Scott Reniff homered for Texas in the 8th giving the Aardvarks a 4-2 lead and the run scored in the 9th by Minnesota off Mike Brown was only window dressing in a 5-4 final. Brown earned his seventh save for Texas/
