2029 JJL HOF

Post by TheBigKahuna0 »

HOF back again. Here are the rules and nominees:

70% of the vote to get elected
50% of the vote to remain on ballot
Max 4 ballots
Voting deadline = Trade deadline
Unlimited votes per owner.

One extra submission this year came from one of our owners. It's a player from way back (and since we have no idea if he was previously up since the old boards are gone) he's back as our Veteran's Committee candidate. Or something like that. We'll put him through the 4 ballot procedure like everyone else and if more players like this are identified, we'll come up with some real rules.

2nd Ballot:
Ad Black - RP - BRO/COL
Black was an elite reliever for a pair of clubs earning 10 All-Star appointments in a span of 11 years. He went back-to-back-to-back as the NL Fireman in 2024-2026 plus was the NL Fireman and NL Cy Young in 2020.

Dave Rozema - SP - DET
Rozema was a big part of the dynasty and stuck around to hang around the ruins in Detroit. He won Rookie of the Year in 2011, two Cy Youngs (2013 and 2019) plus made 10 All-Star teams. He won 247 games overall and finished 5th in strikeouts with 3558.

Veterans Candidate:
Bob Sparma - SS - KC
Sparma was waived a month after being the 16th pick of the 1976 draft, scooped up by Kansas City and the rest is well known in KC lore. He played 17 seasons which spanned three decades. He was an 8 time All-Star and 1991 AL MVP. He racked up a clean 400 home runs, 437 doubles, 2619 hits with an .817 OPS.

1st Ballot:
Erwin Lindeman - SS - SEA
LIndeman came from 2nd round roots to claim 2 MVP awards, 4 All-Star spots and 7 Gold Gloves (including 5 in a row). On the counting stats side he tallied 2064 hits, 336 home runs, and 371 stolen bases.

Johnny Diamond - SP - COL/STL
Diamond started out with great stuff but recognition evaded him. The 3rd overall pick of the 2014 draft was immediately promoted and, other than that first year of struggle, held top of the rotation numbers. Voters finally had to hand it to him starting in 2021 when he was elected to his first All-Star team and won his first Cy Young. He went on to do this three more times in the next three seasons and finished his career with 2 no-hitters (a record according to his page). He finished with 233 wins, 2826 strikeouts, a 1.21 WHIP and 3.31 ERA.

Clyde Kepley - SP - STL
The 2009 5th overall selection ended up playing 2nd fiddle to Diamond, but still had some great seasons while his teammate snatched up all the Cy Young awards. Kepley was elected to 6 straight All-Star teams and threw one no-hitter. He finished with 196 wins, 2287 strikeouts, a 1.27 WHIP, and 3.56 ERA.

Kevin Peters - RP - STL
The hardware was easy to find for Peters as the closer for a dynasty. Upon his promotion in 2012, he earned his first All-Star nod and Rookie of the Year honors. He would go on to join 9 more All-Star teams, win 5 fireman awards and one Cy Young. Peters finished 15th overall in saves with 424 despite not closing for 7 of his 17 years. He ended with a 1.17 WHIP and 3.34 ERA.

Cal Jumonville - CF - STL
Jumonville played 20 years finally retiring at age 40. He was a 10-time All-Star and won 4 Gold Gloves. He broke into the 3000 hit plateau with 3093 and added in 336 home runs, 717 stolen bases (4th all-time) and an .807 OPS. He's also the all-time leader in being caught stealing with 326.

I'll go ahead and vote first - ballot is pretty thin but we're seeing the most of the Browns dynasty hang em up. Plus my homer - one of the few perks of running the HOF.

Black
Roezma
Sparma
Lindeman (a Steelhead ring of honor/hall of fame/whatever. Have my token homer vote)
Diamond (simply for that great 4 year stretch. That's usually not enough, but dang he was gooood)
Peters
Jumonville

Black
Peters
Diamond (Was my return enough for him??? I didn't really want to trade him.)

3000 hits is a lock for me so Jumonville gets a yes.

Black - All Time 16th in saves + CY Young + 4 Fireman awards

Rozema - All Time 5th in K's

Diamond - 4 Cy Young, 5 WS rings

Peters - All Time 15th in saves + CY Young + 5 Fireman awards + ROY

Jumanville - All Time 11th in hits, 10th in runs, 4th in SB, 14th in singles, 13th in doubles, 4th in triples. Compiler, but it counts...

Thanks for putting it together!
