JJL Draft Review 2033

Post by TheBigKahuna0 »

Here it is, a bit late but just as compelling.

1) Colorado Rockers - Rudy Patterson - SP
Patterson is a very good bet to be a rotation ace. Starting at B- at 18 years old is a good start with his balance also looking good. He joins a deep minor league team that is a bit thin in starting pitching due to recent callups. All around solid selection.
Future Comparison: Jesse McKelvy
ETA: 2038
Player Potential: A+
Organizational Fit: A
Overall Grade: A+

2) St. Louis Flyers - Wade Upchurch - C
The Flyers made a good pick here getting a solid catcher that is close to the majors. Upchurch will tough to strike out while providing some good power. His one knock is his lack of speed, but the rest of the package is worthy of a #2 selection.
Future Comparison: Rip Corkins
ETA: 2035
Player Potential: A-
Organizational Fit: A
Overall Grade: A

3) Boston Red Sox - John Hall - 2B
Hall jumps to the Red Sox and immediately becomes their best position prospect. He's very similar to Upchurch and similarly won't develop much speed. He's weak with the glove and won't stick at a premium position. Overall a good #3 pick and fits a need for the Sox.
Future Comparison: Mike Larkin
ETA: 2038
Player Potential: A
Organizational Fit: A
Overall Grade: A

4) Milwaukee Micronauts - Carlos Hall - 2B
Oof. Hall is a prospect that could fit here if he wasn't already 22 years old. At his age, he's not a good bet. The Micronauts have promoted him already where he has 1 at bat (strikeout) in about 3 weeks of action. He's not going to develop and the team has already written him out of their future plans.
Future Comparison: George Strong
ETA: 2036
Player Potential: D
Organizational Fit: D
Overall Grade: D

5) Minnesota Massacres - Rich Wayne - LF
Minnesota had some room for a project type prospect, but instead went with the nearly ready Wayne. Wayne has good power potential against right handed hitters, but that's the end of his upside. He may end up decent against left handers with some speed. The best part is he'll be ready to contribute soon.
Future Comparison: Eddie Rodriguez
ETA: 2034
Player Potential: C+
Organizational Fit: C
Overall Grade: C

6) Washington Halos - Saburo Ogawa - SP
The Halos took the import pitcher with B+/B+ stuff and immediately made their rotation better. Unfortunately this isn't likely a team that is playoff bound so the upgrade comes at the expense of a prospect. The farm is a bit full at the moment, so overall it's not a bad selection but did leave some better options on the table.
Future Comparison: Saburo Ogawa
ETA: Now
Player Potential: C-
Organizational Fit: B
Overall Grade: C+

7) Kansas City Monarch - Bob Boyd - SS
Boyd is a big power prospect that offers some speed. He's going to strike out a lot and will be forced into a classic power hitter position on the field. If his contact comes around, he could be a steal. More likely he'll be hit 5th in the lineup and the Monarchs will hope he can drop some bombs.
Future Comparison: David Nevin
ETA: 2038
Player Potential: B
Organizational Fit: B+
Overall Grade: B+

8) Cincinnati Blackened Blowfish - Bob Rowan - RF
Cincy nailed this selection getting one of the better power prospects with the 8th pick. Rowan is likely to make A+ power from both sides while playing solid defense and developing plus speed. The system is crowded and a pitcher may have served better but it's hard to argue against one of the best hitters in the draft
Future Comparison: John Bechtel
ETA: 2038
Player Potential: A+
Organizational Fit: C+
Overall Grade: B+

9) Colorado Rockers - Jim Schaffernoth - RP
Schaffernoth is only the 2nd true amateur pitcher taken in this draft. The first was also taken by the Rockers so this addition further squeezes their limited resources. Schaf has a shot at starting down the road but more likely is a solid bullpen arm
Future Comparison: Fernando Cerutti
ETA: 2038
Player Potential: A
Organizational Fit: B-
Overall Grade: A-

10) Seattle Steelheads - Rickey Thomas - 3B
Thomas is a high contact and high speed combo that will fit well at the top of the lineup. He's hopeless in the field and likely to stay that way. A recent Seattle promotion provided the perfect opening for him in the system
Future Comparison: Clyde Ohman
ETA: 2037
Player Potential: B+
Organizational Fit: B+
Overall Grade: B+

11) Philadelphia Athletics - Leo Grevell - RP
A handful of recent pitching promotions left the Athletics with space for a long-term project. Grevell is starting from a good spot and can develop into an A overall reliever. He falls to this point in the draft due to his D endurance, locking him out of rotation. Good value at #11 overall.
Future Comparison: Bob Schultz
ETA: 2038
Player Potential: A-
Organizational Fit: A
Overall Grade: A

12) Pittsburgh Bucanners - Johnny Smith - SS
With a roster with it's playoff window closing, Pittsburgh went with an import player to help now. Smith has high contact and a good glove so he should get a shot very soon to see what he can do. He won't be the piece to push them over the top, but the strategy is to win now so a long-term prospect isn't part of the plan.
Future Comparison: Johnny Smith
ETA: Now
Player Potential: B
Organizational Fit: B+
Overall Grade: B

13) Los Angeles Stars - Roy Scheider - 1B
Scheider returns to the beach. The Stars add a solid power prospect to their minor league system. His ability to hit left handers might be a concern down the road, but the PvR is there. Scheider will be part of the new wave of hitters that are hoping to reach the majors before the pitching rotation starts to retire
Future Comparison: Bill North
ETA: 2038
Player Potential: A-
Organizational Fit: A
Overall Grade: A

14) Cleveland Tomahawk Chops - Bernie Poff - 3B
Poff is an older prospect but still needs a few years to develop. He'll be good enough against left handers to enter a platoon, but won't be a daily starter. The Chops could have gone younger, with just 1 player under 20 on their roster
Future Comparison: John McCormick
ETA: 2034
Player Potential: C+
Organizational Fit: C
Overall Grade: C

15) Chicago Beagles - Dick Wilson - SP
Wison is a high velocity and low control guy. He's not a good bet to develop, but with little else in the minor league system for the Beagles, he's worth a look.
Future Comparison: Jimmy Welf
ETA: 2039
Player Potential: D
Organizational Fit: C
Overall Grade: D+

16) Anaheim Earthquake - Dick Lemon - LF
The Earthquake finished the draft well, picking up a well-balanced hitter in Lemon. Lemon fits well into their system as it is mostly missing younger prospects
Future Comparison: Harry Crowell
ETA: 2038
Player Potential: A-
Organizational Fit: A
Overall Grade: A

Awesome as always.

Would love to find a few people to eliminate the bots from this league, but it seems more and more with every passing season that this game/site is slowly dying off.
