The Detroit Tigers exploded for eleven runs on twelve hits to take the second game of the series and even things up. The White Sox won their 20th game against 9 losses to hang onto first place.

Kansas City, who has won nine of its last ten and Detroit (4-6) is now four games behind.

Catcher Tom Lynch was the hitting star of game two scoring two run two hits and driving in four runs while George Brohamer had two runs scored on two hits and three RBI to lead Detroit to a blowout 11=3 victory that knotted the series at one game apiece..

Tigers' starting pitcher Dick Stephenson went nine innings allowed seven hits and three runs (one earned) to put his record at 3-1.

Detroit took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning. Whitey Getz singled stole second and scored on Tom Lynch's RBI single.

New York scored three in the 5th inning to go ahead 3-1.

Draymont Reyes singled to left field. Angel Gleason doubled in Reyes. Darin Vizcaino reached when Stephenson fielded his bunt attempt and threw it into right field allowing Gleason to score. John Howell added a run scoring single (Vizciano)

That was all the scoring for New York. Detroit scored five times in the bottom of the 5th inning to come back to lead 6-3.

Dan Merriman and Jim Thompson had consecutive doubles to produce the first run. Larry Leifield walked Jata and Getz to load the bases. Lynch doubled (third double of the inning to finish Liefield.) Geroge Brohamer's triple off Sam Bedient sent Lynch jogging to the plate. Merriman the tenth batter in the inning grounded to short.

Jim Thompson tripled in the 6th. Danny Jata singled in the run.

Final 11-3.

Detroit won the rubber game of this series behind right hander Jim Sheets (4-1) Eight innings four hits no runs one walk one strikeout.

Paul Buschhorn gave up a two out homerun to Joe Duffie after he struck out the first two batters. A walk followed that before R.C. Winchester hit a shot into right field right at Ricardo Wilson to end the game and give Buschhorn his second save of the season.

Rex Barrett hit two home runs (3rd and 4th of season) to lead the offense.

Barrett hit his first homer in the first inning and Lynch tripled and scored on a George Brohamer single and the second in the 5th inning.
