Minnesota trips up stumbling ChiSox 7-2

The Minnesota Scotsmen blasted first place Chicago on the weight of sending nine men to the plate in the first inning scoring six runs, four coming on a grand slam by Jim Dobernic, one on a bases loaded walk to Joe Cabrello and a single by Pop Herr off losing pitcher Billy Wiltse.

Stew Riesigl went nine innings (WP 5-2) (5H 2R/2ER 2BB/9SO)

Jimmy Gremp and Doc Royer both homered for Chicago.

Paul Buschhorn the fourth of five pitchers used by Detroit got the win in relief. Eddie Johnson started for Detroit and did not make it out of the second inning (1.2 IP 5H 6R/6ER 3BB/1)

Rick Martinez worked a valuable 3.1 innings gave up one hits no runs one walk two strikeouts that kept Toronto right where they were. John Ewing added a scoreless inning (6th) and Sam Womack picked up his first save of the season in the 9th with Bushhorn getting the win for two scoreless innings.

Dan Merriman broke up Scott Bankston's shutout in the 3rd with a solo homerun 6-1.

Detroit scored two runs in the 7th inning. Tom Lynch doubled. Jim Thompson singled in Lynch. Ricardo Wilson reached on a fielder choice (Thompson out at second base.) Dan Merriman singled in the second run. (6-3)

In the 9th inn Detrout rallied against Jackie Fiore. Tom Lynch tripled, Jim Thompson struck out. Mark Tolson singled in Lynch (6-4) and stole second. Brohamer walked. Merriman tripled driving in Tolson and Brohamer (6-6 tying the game and bringing Dan Dwyer into the game.

Pinch hitter Matt Wise greeted him with a run scoring game winning single...Final Detroit 7 Toronto 6.
