The Detroit Tigers won game one of this series 9-3. John Ewing got the win (4-3) out of the bullpen with two additional innings of relief help from Paul Bushhorn.

Tigers catcher Tom Lynch led the way with four hits and four runs batted in including a double and his seventh homerun, Jake Egan had three hits and two runs batted in. Egan hit two doubles and Don Jatkowsky hit his third homerun.

Dick Stephenson made the start for Detroit and got a no decision out of six innings allowing eleven hits and three runs six strikeouts and three walks.

Game two went to Detroit 5-2

Al Uhle started for Detroit and went eight innings allowed six hits two runs one earned no walks and seven strikeouts. Rick Martinez did not retire the only batter he faced but John Ewing did get Toronto out in the ninth inning for his 8th save.

The Tigers had five runs on nine hits.

The Jays had two runs on five hits. The visitors struck first in he bottom of the 2nd inning. A two base error Tigers shortstop Rex Barrett put Todd Alba on second base where he score from on a two out single by Laddie Burga.

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd. Pete Whitehurst singles, stole second, and Dan Merriman doubled to centerfield.

Merriman put the Tigers in front 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th when he hit the first of four solo homeruns by the Tigers. it was Merriman's 4th this season.

Rex Barrett hit his 5th in the 6th inning, pinch hitter Don Jatkowsky hit his 4th in the 7th inning, Whitey Getz hit his 7th in the 8th inning before Toronto scored one in the 9th on a single by Denny Adcock.

The White Sox are matriculating right on through their schedule currently on a three game winning streak five ahead of the Tigers with a 35-18 record.
