Tigers sweep Toronto Jays

Post by basilrathbonejr »

The Tigers staged a comeback to win game three of their series with the last place Toronto Jays to sweep that series.

Toronto scored three runs in the second inning off Detroit starter Jim Sheets to take an early 3-0 lead. The Jays had four hits and a walk off Sheets in the inning. Laddie Burgo singled to right field. Denny Adcock walked and Paul Wagner singled to left field to load the bases. Mark Castro picked up an RBI on a slow roller to third base that was the first out. The other runners advanced to second and third. Joe Howarth singled to center field to drive in Adcock and Wagner.

Jake Egan continued to be sizzling hit with a double and stolen base. Rex Barrett singled home Egan with Detroit's first run.

Don Jatkowsky' three run homer, his 5th, in the 5th inning put Detroit in front 4-3 for the first time in the game. The inning was not over. Egan singled, stole second base, and Barrett singled him in again. 5-3 Detroit.

Dan Marshall came in to pitch for Toronto and Dan Merriman hit a grand slam homerun (his 5th) off him in the 8th inning to ice the game 9-3.
