SO LONG, MEL. YOU WERE ONE OF THE GOOD ONES

Post by rich45 »

Just one more indulgence thread for Mel Stottlemyre. A great career among really bad Yankee teams of my late childhood. Those 50 cent bleachers seats for twi-night doubleheaders (with about 10,000 other lost souls) are kindly etched in my memory. His only postseason was in '64.

His Grand kids go to school with my kids. My oldest played baseball with his grandson who was a pitcher. Was never allowed to throw a curve because of his grandfathers influence. My youngest daughter and his grand daughter have played volleyball together two seasons now.

A really good pitcher on a lot of average to bad teams and an even better pitching coach, hopefully someday when the HOF starts recognizing great pitching coaches as well as managers the veterans committee will vote him in, combining both careers he is deserving in my opinion.
