2051 Hall of Fame election ---PLEASE VOTE

Post by jbk »

As Chief Executive Officer of the Duke Snider League (DSL) Hall of Fame (HOF) (a title I gave myself) I would like to close the nomination process for this year’s HOF selection and begin the voting. We have 6 nominees. I will summarize their attributes in the next paragraph. First, though, the rules. All owners are encouraged to vote. At least 8 votes are required to validate the election. Assuming we have the requisite number of votes, a successful nominee will need more than half of the votes to make his way into the HOF. If a nominee receives at least 25% of the votes but not the required 50+% he is automatically included on next season’s ballot.

The nominees:

Bill Goodman http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9321540 -- Mr Goodman played 16 years for the Boston Ballbusters, retiring after the 2020 season. He was a 7 time first team All Star and hit 407 HRs, had 1441 RBI, a .292 BA and 381 SBs in his career. He was MVP in 2012 after an almost surreal season with 150 runs scored, 212 hits, 56 HR, 160 RBI, an OPS of 1.218, a .438 OBP, a .780 SLG % and a .379 BA. He led the League in each of those categories and handily won the Triple Crown. He played RF with an A+ arm and mentored at an A+ level. He appeared in 3 World Series, once as a winner.

Bill Jones http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=11503968 -- Mr Jones was also a career Boston Ballbuster, playing 17 seasons and retiring after the 2040 season. He had 404 HRs, 1558 RBI, a BA of .289 and 238 SBs in his career. 11 times an All Star, Jones also played in 6 World Series, winning 2. He was a first baseman with an A arm and B range and was an A- mentor.

Matt Allen http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12372030 — Allen retired in 2050 after playing 3 seasons for Texas followed by 11 for the New York Titans. He had a rare combination of speed and power. An 8 time All-Star, Allen hit 227 career HRs and stole 412 bases. His stolen base percentage was over 75%. He also had a career BA of .292 and an OPS of .831. He played 1B with an A+ range, participated in 7 World Series, helping win 4.

Dave Merritt http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=2811961 — My guess is that many of you have not heard of Dave Merritt. I had not. Lamentably, he went to the great clubhouse in the sky at the age of 81 in 2026. He retired in 1983 having played 16 seasons for Brooklyn. Merritt was an 8 time All-Star at SS with a B+ arm. He had 360 HRs, 1468 RBI a .826 OPS, a .288 BA and 202 SBs. He played in 3 World Series helping Brooklyn win 2.

Mo Goodfellow http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=2685482 — Mr Goodfellow is another forgotten star from the dim and murky past of the DSL. He passed away at the age of 75 in 2020. He retired in 1983 after starring for Brooklyn at 2B for 17 seasons. He was the MVP in 1975 and again in 1977. Goodfellow had 250 HRs, 1193 RBI, 243 SB and a .291 career BA. He was an All-Star 7 times, played in 3 World Series and helped Dave Merritt help Brooklyn win twice.

Judy Johnson http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=11897636 — Judy Johnson retired in 2050 having played 7 seasons for Seattle and then closing out his career with 12 for Baltimore. Johnson was MVP 4 times: in 2040 and 2041, and then in 2044 and 2045. Only two current members of the DSL HOF, Freddy Brewer http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=3248137 and Jim Cunningham http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10271491, have ever won as many as 4 MVPs. He played RF with an A+ range. He was also an A+ mentor. A 12 time All-Star, Johnson had 364 HRs, 1400 RBI, an .850 OPS, .297 BA and 367 SBs. In 2045 he led his League in the following categories: 220 hits, a 1.038 OPS, .431 OBP and a BA of.372. He played in 6 World Series, winning 3 times.

Yes on all of them. In the real life version of the HOF, if you were at the top of your position for 5 seasons, you deserve to be in the Hall. All these fine players make it on that qualification.

Philadelphia votes for Goodman and Johnson. While the other nominees were clearly very good I don’t think their accomplishments are quite Hall of Fame worthy.

Seattle votes yes for all.

Also would like to add that Judy Johnson was drafted as a catcher and used primarily as one when he was with Seattle. Baltimore unlocked his potential by making him into a full-time outfielder.

Thanks to jbk for running the HOF!
