2061 HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS

Post by jbk »

As Commissioner of the world famous Duke Snider League Hall of Fame it is my honor to announce the commencement of this season’s Hall of Fame selection process. The rules for admission are as follows: all retired players not in the HOF are eligible. Any owner may nominate any former player. Once a sufficient time has passed I will close nominations and ask for votes. At least 8 owners must vote in order to validate the election. Assuming a sufficient number of votes, a nominee must receive more than half the votes cast to earn enshrinement. Nominees receiving at least 25% but less than the number needed for selection will automatically be included on next season’s ballot.

As you no doubt recall, last season we elected Ray Hiller http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12852181 and Bill Robertson http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=8481599 to the Hall. Four players:

Hughie Farrell http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12968523,
410 saves, 3.11 ERA, 8 All Star seasons
Andy Jacquez http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=13070403,
232-138 lifetime record 3.69 ERA, 6 All Star seasons
Mickey Hamilton http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12968527,
.296 lifetime average, 9 Gold Gloves at 1B, 5 All Star teams
and Ted Radcliffe http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12905806
MVP 2055, 6 Gold Gloves at 3B, 5 All Star teams, 228 HRs,
received enough support to automatically appear on this season’s ballot.

I would like to start the nomination process this season by recognizing a few players that retired at the end of last season and are thus in their first year of eligibility. I don’t think it an exaggeration to say that this season the road to the Hall of Fame goes through Milwaukee. The Bucks lost four players to retirement that have a strong chance of election. They are:

Arthur King http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12852173
2,979 hits, .299 lifetime average, 624 SBs—10th best all time, MVP 2051 and 2053, 14 years in a row first team All Star,
Rusty Wright http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12905780
285-151 career record, 3.08 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, Cy Young winner 2050 and 2054, 8 time All Star (his win total is 17th best in league history)
Matty Williamson http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12798847
2,576 hits, .297 lifetime BA, 347 HRs, 438 SBs, MVP 2055, 8 time All Star
and, Steve Lloyd http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12741833
3,332 career hits, 3rd best in League history, .301 BA, 585 SBs, 250 HRs, 13 times an All Star

Milwaukee, of course, was not the only team to lose significant longtime contributors. Montreal said goodbye to
Alex Birdsall http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12968526
261-135 career record, 2.82 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 7 time All Star
and Dale Richie http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12905800
.299 BA, 232 HRS, 3 time All Star.

I’m certain I’ve left out many deserving candidates. Please feel free to submit your nominations. Remember: any former player not in the HOF is eligible. After a reasonable amount of time I will close nominations and ask for your votes. Thank you for your participation.

Just one point of interest; Alex Birdsall was in the same draft class as Allie Lyons http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12968544

I have no regrets in drafting Lyons #1 overall of course, but it makes me cringe knowing that I took Jim Plantier http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12968544 with the #5 pick, passing on Birdsall.

Thinking about a rotation that could have included Lyons, Birdsall and Rusty Wright makes me salivate a bit....

I think you did pretty well even without Birdsall. Let’s not be greedy.

Greed....it's the American way-

Plus, it's fun to dream...
