Perfection

Post by klobas2 »

On September 18th, Wheel Strizzardy of the Seattle Starbucks threw a perfect game against the first place Boston team, winning a tight 1-0 pitchers duel.

After Strizzardy retired the Bostonians 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth to a smattering of light applause he could only watch and hope that his team would eke out a run to record his place in history.

Boston ace Red Bassett was clearly tiring and walked the first two hitters in the bottom of the ninth. Boston turned to its premiere setup man David Cullop. Cullop struck out slugger Dutch Nye for the first out but then lost a hard fought AB to the crafty veteran Hal Chase who walked to load the bases. The game found its match when youngster Butch Sparma hit a weak dribbler out to second base. The throw home came a fraction of a second too late to nab the speedy Vic Swingle.

The hard-charging Seattle squad is keeping its dim playoff hopes alive with a fantastic hot streak winning 16 of the past 21 games, including back to back sweeps of the top two American League teams.

The no-hitter was the ninth in Seattle franchise history.

1 perfect game & 1 no-hitter (Washington) this season. Not likely to see such a thing from a Texas pitcher for awhile.

Congratulations to Wheel Strizzardy!
Glad we didn't have another Harvey Haddix on our hands!
