Post by larrysiegfried20 » Sun Oct 07, 2018 7:29 pm

The Minnesota Moonlighters kept pace with the co-leader who both won with a 3-2 win over Oakland.

Minnesota won its sixth consecutive game and second in a row over Oakland.

Over the winning streak both the offense and the pitching has been superb. Minnesota hitters have scored 27 runs on sixty five hits for a .322 team batting average. The team's overall batting average is .271 (second in the league)

The pitching staff's ERA for the season is 3.92 but is falling rapidly as the staff put together a 2.33 ERA over the last six games.

Starting pitcher Mike Patterson won his second straight start coming within one inning of two straight complete games. Patterson went eight innings gave up two runs on five hits walked one and struck out eight.

All the scoring in this game came via a homerun. Both starting pitchers, Patterson and Ralph Knowles gave up two homeruns in the game.

Minnesota took the early lead on a solo homerun in the first inning by leftfielder Mack Webb, his first homer of the season.

Oakland tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second innng when Eddie Ullger hit his 3rd of the season.

Oakland starting pitcher Ralph Knowles walked Mike Straub to start the 6th inning and first baseman Brad Ward hit his 6th of the season putting Minnesota ahead 3-1.

Terry Cedeno hit the fourth homer of the game for both team's, his sixth, to cut Minnesota's lead to one.

That would be as close as they could come. Jack Saurez came on for his second straight save since being given the closer role.
