Game two; Minnesota 10 Toronto 7

Post by larrysiegfried20 »

Game two was a high scoring affair due to both bullpens suffering from some tired arms and needing some time off from a heavy workload of late.

Minnesota scored ten runs on twelve hits, committed one error and left six runners on base.

Toronto scored seven runs on ten hits and also left six men on.

Y-Deun Boundap took advantage of the run support going 8.2 innings giving up seven runs on nine hits with four walks and an impressive nine strikeouts.

Boundap has been victimized by twelve unearned runs scored behind him still has a 3.36 ERA over 69.2 innings pitched.

After Boundap struck out the side in the first inning, (he struck out the first five Toronto batters he faced) his teammates got him the early lead on singles by CF Goose Weeden and LF Floyd Izqueido and a RBI ground out.

Rick Beckert, mired in a season long batting slump, has shown signs of emerging recently and it he got going in the third inning when he smashed a grand slam homerun in the third inning off Toronto starting pitcher Bill Duff (LP 3-2), his 3rd of the season.

Minnesota added four more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning and homeruns again figured in the scoring. Third baseman Aaron Mota singled past shortstop Jim Cozart, advanced to second on a ground out to third base by catcher Amos Strueli and scored when the pitcher Boundap singled.

Mack Hilton replaced Steve Treadway (1.1 IP 2H 2R/2ER 1BB/8SO.

As they did in the first inning, Weeden and Izquiedo combined for two timely hits that led to run number ten. Goose Weeden dropped a soft single in front of charging center fielder Darryl Pena. Floyd Izqueido hit a three run homerun to take it 9-1 Minnesota.

Minnesota left Boundap in a bit too long with the big lead The right hander born in Vietnam of Montagyard parents was obviously laboring in the 8th and ninth innings.

Frank Gainer hit a solo homerun in the 8th.

Toronto scored five times in the 9th to make the game appear closer than it really was. Jack Saurez came in to put out the fire and get his 6th save in his second attempt for it.
