Minnesota 4 Boston 1

Post by larrysiegfried20 »

Minnesota sweeps Boston in Beantown for their third straight win. The Moonlighters have now won 21 0f their last 27 games improving from 10-16 9 games back to 32-22 four games behind first place Toronto and just two games behind Washington.

Minnesota went into the finale of the series with two goals in mind. The first was to win and complete the sweep and the second was to win in just nine innings since both of the first two games went into extra innings and neither bullpen wanted any of that.

Mike Patterson who made the start on the mound has been a very consistent pitcher. Over his last five starts Patterson has gone 4-0 with one no-decision. In all five games he has gone exactly eight innings as he did in this game allowing five hits and one run.

The only run off him came in the fourth inning after he had struck out the first two batters. Lance Keller, the next batter doubled bringing the tying run to the plate, Decker stole third base (14th)Patterson sawed off Mike Smith and Smith popped out to third base ending the inning.

Minnesota had 4 runs on 14 hits and nine walks leaving 14 runners on base.

They scored their first run in the first inning when Dick Mungo walked Chuck Trillo w/one out. Keith Smith forced Trillo at second with a dribbler back to the mound but beat the return throw to first. Mungo hit Mike Straub with a pitch. Anthony Ribrant singled to left field driving in his 37th run of the season (fourth in the Al).

Then in the next inning, the 2nd, Damon Carey opened hostilities with a single to right field. Don Allison struck out. Mike Patterson bunted with one out advancing the runner to second with two outs. Izquierdo walked and Trillo beat out a slow roller to shortstop. A wild pitch advanced the runners..Carey came in to score.

2-0 Minnesota went up 3-0 in the fourth on a RBI single by Floyd Izquierdo.

Beckert triples and Carey singled him in in the 5th to make it 4-1 to complete the scoring.

Patterson departed after eight and closer Jack Saurez picked up save number 10 in the ninth as Minnesota wins again!!!!

Can you hear us gaining Washington and Toronto???
