The Brooklyn Dodgers are currently 11-10 six games behind first place Atlanta who is burning up the National League with a sizzling 17-4 record (.810%). Brooklyn, winners of seven of their last ten games, is tied with three other teams, New York, Colorado and Florida for second place in the early going of the NL race.

Brooklyn won game one (8-4) and three (9-3) of the series to take the series two games to one.

Florida took game two 8-4 in ten innings. Florida is now 1-0 in extra innings and the Dodgers are 3-1.

Brooklyn scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Florida starting Jack Jones gave up a single to left field by Leo Fox and homerun to Clint Elliott for a 2-0 Dodger lead.

Brooklyn scored five more runs in the fifth inning to go ahead 7-0.

Four came off Jones who did not survive the inning and one came off his replacement, Jorge Autry.

Tom Myers singled to left field and Carl Taylor his the second Brooklyn homerun of the game off Florida starter Jones, and his first of the season since he was acquired off waivers from Seattle. (4-0).

The inning was not over. Joe Scheneberg walked with two outs, and Fox doubled to drive him in with Brooklyn's third run of the inning.

Jorge Autry replaced Jones (LP 0-3).

Mike Gross greeted Autry with a double scoring both Fox and Elliott to make the score 7-0.

Brooklyn's number two stating pitcher right hander Dick Ford went nine innings in the contest allowing three runs on eight hits walked two and struck out five.

Ford retired the first six consecutive batters he faced and tossed five hit shutout ball through the first six innings before Florida ruined his shutout in the seventh inning.

In that inning, Ford walked John Courtney with one out and Warren Worrell reached on a two base error by left fielder Tom Myers. Pinch hitter Dolly Ruthfuss grounded out to second but Courtney scored on the play to make the score 7-1.

Both teams added two more runs late in the game to make the final score 9-3.

Brooklyn scored on singles by Pat Carey and Jim Richmond, a RBI ground out by Pete House, and a run scoring single by pitcher Dick Ford.

Florida scored two on a two run homerun by Bill Schang, his first of the season.
