BROOKLYN 3 COLORADO 2

The second game of every series is always pivotal, no matter who won the first game. Brooklyn has heated up winning 13 of seventeen since opening the season with five straight losses. Colorado has lost five straight to drop to 11-12 eight games behind the steam rolling Ironmen of Atlanta 19-4 (826%) five straight wins and nine wins in last ten games. Atlanta has been unstoppable so for this season.

The starting pitchers in this game, Bob Pisciotta and Steve Bates, both pitched extremely well.

Bates (2-3) went all nine innings giving up three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks. All three runs surrendered by Bates came in the first inning on four hits and one walk. Bates did not allow a run after the first and held Brooklyn to just two hits over the final eight innings with three strikeouts.

Brooklyn's runs in the first inning came as a result of a one out single to leftfield by Leo Fox. Fox stole second base and scored on a single up the middle by Mike Gross. Gross stole second base and scored easily on a double by Jack Dorman. Jim Richmond was called out on strikes for the second out. Bates issued a two out walk to Clint Elliott that kept the inning going. Troy Anderson made the walk hurt by singling in Dorman to make it 3-0.

Brooklyn starter Bob Pisciotta had a two hit shutout over the first five innings then ran into trouble in the sixth when he struck out the side, but gave up a walk in between each of the first two strikeout

Colorado scored two runs off Pisciotta in the eighth inning. Both runs came after two were out. Ron Clinton and Vince Bronkey both singled putting runners on first and third. Pisciotta walked Carl Bailey to load the bases. A single to left by Jim DeMaestri scored Clinton and Bronkey. Pisciotta struck out Brian Holton to end the inning.

Kip Tomberlin came in and got three infield ground outs to pick up his seventh save.

Brooklyn will now go for the sweep in game three with right hander Rafael Martinez (0-3 4.15) trying for his first win of the season opposed by left hander Bob Cantrell (2-2 8.80).
