Amazingly, this season's playoff berth ends a 35 year streak without making the postseason. Oakland's last team was their 2002 World Series loss to Chicago (now LA). It was the longest drought of any franchise in the DDL. San Diego & Seattle are now the new leaders with 2037 being the 12th season consecutive they have failed to make the playoffs.

Since I love finding random old-timers, here are a few of the interesting members of that 2002 runner-up Oakland team:

Staff Ace Carl Petoskey - Winner of Game 6 in the ALCS against Chicago (now Boston). Not only did Petoskey throw 8 innings, allowing only 1 solo home run, but he also drove in a run in the close 4-2 win.

Underdog Ray Driscoll - Finished 4th in the MVP voting in 2002. Astoundingly, he was the closest thing Oakland had to a marquee bat that season. They would field zero position players on the All-Star team. In a huge Game 5 11-1 blowout, Driscoll would hit a 2-run homer in the 1st and end up driving in 3 while scoring 2 runs himself. Not exactly known for his HR-hitting prowess; his career HR% would only be 1.4% of ABs. Driscoll would also score the winning run (after stealing 2nd) in the 9th inning of Game 3.

2001 season AL MVP Ramon Mellor - The closest thing to a stud hitter for Oakland. Followed up his tremendous 39 HR, 136 RBI 2001 with merely a 21 HR, 74 RBI 2002. Still, he was the key to the Game 4 comeback as he drove in 2 runs (including the game-tying 7th run) and scored 2 runs (including the game-winning 8th run after stealing 2nd).
