Cards roll to sixth straight win

St. Louis 5 Florida 4

St. Louis manager Red Snodgrass began a three game suspension for contact with an umpire will arguing and will miss the rest of the series. Bench coach Bob Moody will fill in.

The Cardinals rolled to their sixth straight win, second straight over Florida to win the series and set up the possibility of a second consecutive sweep for the Red Birds.

Florida came out swinging and took a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning against Cardinal starting pitcher Bill Hardy. John Siner singled, Hardy walked Roger Harris and Keith Champion singled to right field driving in Siner. John Page reached on a single off Hardy's leg. Harris scored run number two. Parent and Aaron grounded out, Aaron scored on the second out.

3-0 Florida.

Hardy settled down and did not allow another run until late in the game. The St Louis bats came alive in the bottom of the 1st to score two very important runs.

Lou Conley, swinging a very hot bat, doubled. Fox bounced to short. Ghelfi flied to center. Schlesinger doubled, Conley scored. Brooks Marshall singled in Schlesinger to put St Louis back in the game. 3-2 Florida.

St Louis took the lead in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Fox walked and stole second base. Ghelfi singled him in to score. Schlesinger struck out Marshall and Matheny drew walks. Jake Hiller picked up an RBI on a ground out to third.

4-3 St. Louis

Conley tripled to start the 6th inning sending Adams to the showers (LP 1-5) 5.1IP 6H 5R/5ER 1BB/3SO)>

Jimmie Smith the new pitcher struck out Fox, but gave up a run scoring single to Amalio Ghelfi. (Conley scored) Ghelfi stole second base. Schlesinger was robbed of a hit by 2b Alex Tarasco to end the inning. 5-3 St. Louis.

Tarasco hit a solo homer in 8th to make the final score 5-4.
