BOSTON 1 DETROIT 0 ...LP had a no-hitter....WP allowed one hit...

Post by larrysiegfried20 »

The full house at Fenway Park saw an historic matchup between two pitchers and the home team win a game that they had zero hits in.

Boston is 13-10 after this game and remians two games behind the co-leaders Los Angeles and Toronto.

Cliff Stone started for Boston and went eight innings, allowed one hit and no runs, with one walk and three strikeouts. Stone is now 4-0 with a 1.97 ERA.

Speed Dees took a very tough loss to fall to 1-2. Dees did not give up a hit over eight innings but wildness and a very untimely error cost him the game. Dees walked four and struck out five.

Two of those walks came in the 5th inning. Dees walked catcher Gary Nathan with one out and second baseman Mark Koch with two outs. Centerfielder Charlie Stevens then dropped a flyball hit by Emil Wells that allowed Nathan to score the game's only run.

The one Detroit hit came in the eighth inning with one out and it was struck by Mark Fittery. The only other base runner for Detroit was Russ Fenor, who walked with one out in the fifth, ending a streak of sixteen straight retitred by Stone.

Boston is now 13-10 and trail Los Angeles and Toronto by two games.

Toronto clobbered Minnesota 11-4 and moved into a tie with Los Angeles for first place after LA was shutout 3-0 by John Milne on one hit for seven and two third innings. Dave Neives came in with two outs in the eighth and struck out the only batter he faced and George Lupo picked up his fifth save with a scoreless ninth inning.
