As July came to a close, Montreal continued its recent winning ways by recording its sixth straight win, and second straight over the Philadelphia Knights, to win the series. Montreal now goes for the sweep on August 1 with a pair of talented righthanders paired up against each other on the mound.

Floyd Diaz (3-1 2.44) will take on Art Crawford (2-2 3.24) in the finale on a nationally televised game on NBC's Game of the Week. Dizzy Dean and Buddy Blattner will have the play by play beginning a 2pm.

Montreal is now 15-11 and now tied with the St. Louis Spiders for second place after the Spiders took it on the chin from the San Francisco Giants 7-1. The Spiders have lost two straight to San Francisco.

First place Brooklyn meanwhile kept their three game lead over the two second place teams by edging the New York Nets 9-8.

Montreal's number five starting pitcher, Roy Hearron, answered the challenge issued by manager Buck Witten to the Expos starting pitchers for more consistency. Hearron went all nine innings for his first complete game shutout of the season and gained his second win in three decisions.

Hearron limited the Knights to five hits walked two and struck out an impressive eight batters.

Ferell Elsh took the loss lasting only four innings being charged with five runs, all earned, walked six and struck out seven.

The Expos extended hitting streaks to six games. Larry Torpocher now batting ,314 for the season has gone 10 for his last 24 (.417) with three homeruns in the last three games and 14 runs batted in.

Greg Akers also had hit three homeruns and has batted .318 (7 for 22) with 7 RBI and nine runs scored.

Lead off batter Dick Reyes has hit .500 during his six game streak.
