Art Crawford (WP 3-2) went eight shutout innings, allowed five hits, walked two and struck out eight to snap the five game winning streak of the Montreal Expos.

The always self confident Crawford was almost giddy after the game. ''I really had the strike out pitch going early (all seven strikeouts over the first five innings), and later on I went to the off speed stuff to keep them off balance, We needed this game badly and I was really happy with my performance.''

Crawford was less happy about having to givevway to Tony Harrist in the ninth inning, Harrist pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fifth save.

Floyd Diaz (3-2) took the tough loss. Diaz went 8.1 innings alowing three runs on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.

Two of the three walks by Diaz turned into runs. Diaz walked Don Funk and gave up a homerun (3rd) to Joe Wakefield to give Philadephia a 2-1 lead.

Diaz walked the lead off batter in the 9th inning, Creighton Nieto, then brought about his exit by uncorking a wild pitch sendong Nieto to seco d base.

Earl Curry replaced Diaz on the mound for Montreal and retired the first batter he faced thanks to a great defensive play by second baseman Larry Toporcer. Mitchell Morgan's two out single drove in the Knight's third and final run.
