Post by basilrathbonejr »

The 1952 season is now five games old on the day real baseball begins another of its marathon races over this coming summer.
The Joe Cronin League National League begins its' 1952 season hoping for a repeat of the two previous seasons that both featured memorable races and two different winners.

In 1950 the Pittsburg Pirates went an incredible 54-27 to win the regular season title but were knocked off in the NLCS by the New York Nets (46-35) who finished a rather distant eight games behind the Pirates but upset the Buccos only to lose the World Series to the American League wild card team, the Boston Red Stocking (48-33). Boston over came American League pennant winner, the Anaheim Surfers (50-31).

In 1951 the National League put together a tense four team race that went down to the final day of the season. Brooklyn (47-34), Montreal (46-35), St. Louis (45-36 and Milwaukee (43-38) were the participants with the Brooklyn Ally Cats prevailed only to lose to the American League representative, the LA Outlaws (48-33), who took out the AL Wild Card team, the Toronto 1977 (47-34).
