Game One

Philadelphia 10 MONTREAL 6

Montreal ace Floyd Diaz was harshly roughed up in game one of the series at Knights Park for seven runs on six hits in just four and two-thirds innings to drop him to 1-2 this season.

Tony McGlothlin hit his third homerun of thie new season with no one on base in the seventh inning off reliever Brian Bichette.

John McTamany was the biggest contributor of all hitting two three run homeruns ( six RBI) and also singled and scored as well.

for the win.

Les Bombeck (1-0) went seven and two thirds innings allowing five hits and five runs (only two earned).


MONTREAL 5 PHILADELPHIA 2

Red Harrell picked up his foirst win of the season after two straight losses by going six and one third innings giving up seven hits and two earned run walking two and striking out two.

''Not a great start, but it was good enough for the win,'' Harrell said afterwards.

Relievers Kim Whelan (one and two thirds scoreless innings), and Earl Curry's scoreless ninth for his fourth save got the job done late in the game.

Montreal struck early for two runs in the second innings on a single, and stolen base by Pete Bransford, a walk to Cliff Strauss, and a double by rookie shortstop Darryl Dillon.

Straus added ahomerun, his first, in the third inning with two outs and two on to put Montreal ahead 4-0.

Philadelphia got one back in the sixth inning when Crash Shiner homered.

1951 MVP Greg Akers hit his second in the seventh with two outs to make the score 5-1 and Jerry Conlan singled in Philadelphia's final run in the seventh.
